under hood squeaking


so something under the hoods been squeaking and the belt looks worn so Ill be replacing that today but if it doesnt fix it and its the cam synchro how hard is that to change

It's probably not a cam synchro. I would put my money on it being a pulley (probably tensioner pulley).

+1^ the tensioner pulley started squeeking at about 110k for me

well ill find out soon can I use a 1/2" breaker bar or is it a socket for the tensioner

i always just put a socket on it with a breaker bar and pryed that sucker up. spray all the pulleys with a little wd40 or something. its probably the tensioner.

yes its there probably 50% of the time and increases with rpms but once it starts it stays for a while it wasnt the belt and its coming from the top middle of the engine right by were the cam synchro is and i tried spraying all the pulleys but made no difference

anybody ever change one?or is it possible to fix the squeeking some other way should i worry about taking it out

There is a thread or two on this here. I remember it being a squealing noise near the water pump. You need to purchase it from Ford not aftermarket. You need an alignment tool.The price being $125.00.Need to replace cam synchro. How much of a hurry should I be in?

Just to be clear, don't spray the belt surface of the pulleys, spray a little lubricant on the pulley bearings to diagnose the noise.
