My steering has a mind of its own..

Ok.. I just got a brand new Rack and pinion.. and had all that shit done.. alignment and all.. But for some reason.. my Steering has no self return.. the wheel will stay where you turn it, and sometimes it will just lean left or right.. it makes driving annoying.. Also, when I hit my brakes.. my car will pull to the left.. Brand new Calipers too, thought one might have been frozen or something.. any suggestions are appreciated... Thanks

I have the same problem with my '07 v6 but haven't gotten in checked up on yet. I've heard it's just an alignment issue but if you already got that checked then I'm not sure what the problem could be but maybe something to do with the tires' balance.

Did you get a print out of your alignment?

I have a really silly question for you. Does it vary with the roads you drive on?

This is going to sound kind of dumb.
I had what sounds like a very similar issue. I fixed my camber and everything, new tires etc. and the pulling when braking didn't change (my steering pretty much stays where it goes, but it's not hard to change/manipulate). Eventually I realized it only happened on certain types of roads out here, which were old and worn into grooves and the surface overall was curved/peaked/tilted (not nice and flat or smooth). I don't get to drive on nice roads a lot, but when I did finally it made a huge difference and I didn't notice any of it at all.

Also make sure you get an alignment print out and that they use a steering wheel straightener holder majiggy while aligning the car. I have to do that to my 2010 GTI every alignment or else it will be very similar to your problem.

No self return is usually a caster problem. Might want to talk with the alignment shop.

If it pulls to one side it's usually a caliper or slide, but if those are new I'd get the alignment fixed first and see if it was a symptom of that. If not take a look at the calipers, or more importantly the slides.

Thanks guys. And it does it regardless of the road conditions so its not that, and its not a dumb question I had an alignment not too long ago, i might still have the papers but im not sure.. Ill look up on the caster, and as for the brakes im not sure.
