inspection problems

so Im a student in rhode island right now but my car is registered in ny went home the other saturday because my inspection was up and the assholes failed it for a bulb out in my third brake light and wipers. It was there all day and when I asked if I or them could fix it quick they said no took my expired sticker and charged me. So do I have to get it inspected in ny or can I get it here in ri?and do you think the same shop with charge me again even though I have the receipt and fixed the problems

damn thats a tough inspection...thank god we don't go through it

however they will most likely charge you for the 2nd go around...it's how the state makes money

well than im definatley not going anywere near that shop ever again one of the few things I have to bring my car somewere to get done and i get screwed out of 40 bucks what do you guys have to do for yours nys just eliminated the emissions atleast

we have emissions...i just passed mine today. $10 for the test & $75 for another year of driving legal

luckily we don't have inspection for stupid little things lol

let me get this straight..... you didnt pass a dumb inspection because of a burned out bulb and a wiper. WTF

yeah nys is $37 has a safety emissions and than they run some obdII stuff and it has to pass it all and even though you dont need 3rd brake lights my car obviously has one and it needs all the bulbs even though theres like 4 and they all work! my wipers were a little shot but way to be assholes about it

oh and another thing I cleaned my tb the other day and started to take my tps off and only starting undoing one screw then decided to leave it but now its reading a low voltage at the tps are the screws an adjustment on these?

I'd find a better shop. I wouldn't trust those guys around my car whatsoever.
Back when I was in NY I had a great shop to go to. If I had something small or stupid like that, I could run home, fix it, and bring it back in 20min and they'd pass it.

To answer your questions:
-yes they'll probably charge you. They're dicks.
-you can only get your car inspected by the state it's plated in. Want an RI inspecton? Have to get RI plates. Can't mix and match.

...one of the few upsides to living in IN now, no inspections.

The place I go to usually fixes whatever needs to be fixed so that you pass the first time, of course you have to pay for the repairs.

Last year my cobalt had 4 burnt out tires, they replaced one and passed me.

You guys get charged for inspection? I just drive up to the facility, take my gate ticket and wait in line. Go through, pass or fail and leave. If I fail for something stupid I can fix in the parking lot I do. Then just drive back around and go through again.

Mine costs $20 bucks I know the guy really well I go in and he gives me a new sticker

Here they make you pay first before they ever look at your car. I guess in case it fails they dont have to worry about you running off. They also scan the bar-code on the inside of your door so that if you do fail and take it to another shop the shop will know you failed. If you do fail they give you a piece of paper and 10 days to fix whatever is wrong. If you fix it within the 10 days you take it back to them and they will just inspect whatever failed and then give you a sticker.
