Only do an IRS swap if you want the uniqueness of having it. an 8.8 is Stronger, Lighter, and Cheaper than an irs. just stick to finding that 8.8 with gears.

The 8.8 is definitely stronger and lighter.
In this case, which I'm shocked at, the IRS might be cheaper, plus it's already got 3.55:1's in it. You should be ok around 550, but I would do bushings regardless. Much the same as doing UCA/LCA and bushings on a SRA, so that's kind of a wash. In the end (cost aside) it's whether you want strength or handling.

I'd take a 01 or 03/04 IRS over any stick axle any day. Why? they already have 31 spline axles. With that being said, it's still better than the quada-bind in stock form.
