Where in Florida do you live ? I would stop guessing and take it to a ASE certified tech. That's just me. It doesn't sound like the camshaft pos. sensor.

Here are a couple of tips to locate where the noise comes from. Get an empty paper towel tube and put it close to your ear, and move it to different parts of your engine. This should help you find sounds that are made outside of the engine, pulleys, alternator, EGR, power steering, etc.
Take a large screw driver and put it in your ear and put the blade on different parts of the engine. This will tell you where the sound originates inside the block. You can hear a spun bearing, rod knock, noisy lifters, etc.
Hopefully the noise is not inside the engine!

Alright so I took it to the shop and they looked at it for free and said it was the cam synchro. So now I have to spend 200 bucks on the part to replace this but Im gonna do it myself cuz I dont have the money to buy the part let alone the mechanic to install it also. What do I need to know about replacing this part? Any input, suggestions, instructions etc would be of great help. Thank you!

I have that laying around I think. What all do you need? Maybe it just needs to be adjusted

I believe I need the alignment tool and the whole cam synchronizer. From what Im reading some people are saying I have to align the engine at TDC to do this job so I may need a compression gauge to this job as well but others are saying as long as you keep the alignment right when you switch the synchro out you should be fine.. any input on that as well?

Pull out your cylinder number 1 spark plug and see when the piston is tdc... Or look at the markings on the crank pulley

So in theory.. wouldnt I be able to just take the old syncro out and put the new one in without having to worry about lining everything up at TDC as long as the new one is in the EXACT same spot as the old one?
