race a camero


my buddy just bought like a early 90's camero, the boxy style, and i believe its stock but the dual exhaust that i think was just made of scrap metal, but its a 5.0 v8 and its automatic, would it even be worth it to race him, or would i get my shit strait owned? my cars stock except for the cai

cuz chevy puts 5.7 350s in most of their cars and the 305 is a slightly rarer engine... well at least thats what i have been told... if it a 305 then expect to be raped... if its a 350 put 4.10s in it and you can run with it

ive already beat a couple ricer civics from my school so idk, but a lot of people have told me to put 4.10 lockers in, how much do those run? and would i be able to put um in with a couple of my buddies that kno a little more about cars or should i just pay to get it dome professionally

pay a pro ... their is a crush seal ring dealio that needs to be tightened perfectly ... which can be a little awkward... and you need to set the lashing just right or else you get a whiring noise... but other then that... it might be accomlishable if you have done it once or twice before

He'd help you by sitting in a lawn chair and tell you when you do it wrong and how he fixed it when he did it wrong. If your getting gears then get the tlok (is that the locker your talking about?) and have a mechanic do it. At least if they do it wrong you can take it back and have them do it again. Also your back wont hurt, or your neck if you are using a lift.

mmk ima just throw this out you currently have 2.73s if you go to 4.10s this is a large increase and will probably shot your gas milage in the foot... also first gear will be imensly short... think of it as 75% quicker... say it takes 5 seconds to get throught first... (hypothetical) now it will take about 3 seconds to get through that gear... so yea

most people will tell you 3.73s i personally am going to get 4.10s just cuz i never drive on the high way and when i do i don't speed cuz we gots those bitch-maros patrolin the highways here

if its as slow as the 5.0 stangs it will be a close race, especially since he has alot of years of wear and tear on the engine and trans. race him and see how it goes.
if your confident with your mechanical skills i would install the gears and posi yourself. i love working on cars and seeing how stuff works. and taking it to a mechanic is just a hole in the wallet and no education. just take your time and dont rush things.
