I'm not sure if this has been asked before but other than the size, what is the difference between a 7.5 with 4.10 and an 8.8 with 4.10? Is a swap really that necessary for optimal performance?

No, the swap isn't necessary. The 8.8" rear weighs 100lbs more than the 7.5" rear. It can handle more power stock vs stock, but a built 7.5" can handle a decent amount of power.

yeah but for a single port it doesnt rev as high so you shift at around 4.5-5k. so his gears would be mega short with 4.10s lol

Looked up the sales figures for 3.73 vs 4.10s. The 4.10s win by a landslide. < ---- sarcasm.
Literally the 4.10s were 51% and 3.73's were 49%. So you could see where this debate goes on forever, haha.
