Gas octane

Ok so I know as fas as pump gas you dont need premium unless your tuned for it. So if you do have a premium tune would race gas be beneficial at all

I'm not sure what you mean by premium tune, but premium gas is for Forced induction and/or higher compression ratio engines. (9.8:1) is where I'd switch from 87 or 89 to at least 91 octane.

If you have the timing pulled back really far, or have it advanced very far, it wouldn't hurt to run premium to reduce the chance of pre-detonation.

No. Higher octane means the spontanious flash point of the fuel has been raised. It does nothing to add power. What it does is allow you to add more spark before preignition (spark knock). What's where you get the power. Typically you add spark for power and pull spark for fuel economy. Ideally you want to run the lowest octane you can without creating a situation for preignition.

higher octane is never beneficial unless you are tuned for it and 25 bucks a gallon for race fuel is not worth it.

The octane rating is merely a measurement at which autoignition occures and has nothing to do with heat efficiency.
