idiot A/C statement
Theres an idiot I work with that Im constantly punching in the kidneys for fun. Anyway, he said that taking and routing your A/C to your air intake would make your car faster... is this guy stupid or is there validity to this statement? If not, I'm adding a daily shot to the throat as well..

Sure, if you could get the colder air blowing into your intake....
uhm you could posibilly get a 1-5hp gain from it.... I guess Maybe ![]() Then again it would be better to just delete your a/c before you tried that

it seems umm well really hard, and pointless. I mean it could in essence cause cooler temps but how you would actually get routed to your intake seems like way to much work

seriously though, when you turn on your AC, doesnt it rob a bunch of power from your motor? Even if you could get a gain from it, wouldnt the power loss from running the compressor just negate it? This is nuts anyways and probably not worth much thought except for entertainmnet. |

It's a law of physics, the amount of energy required to compress the refrigerant can only equal the energy gained by the reduced air intake temperature. That is, of course, neglecting friction in some perfect universe. In other words - it doesn't work. If it did, race cars would do it...

its not so much weight but rotating mass... ya know? you are removing a lot of restriction on the crank... and if you completly gutted the A/C parts maybe 100 pounds ish?
it is possible to just re route the belt so its shorter with out the A.C and then re route it in winter for heat

well shit i went and looked at mine... i personally would need to get an A.C delet kit... which ends up being a dumby pulley that spins with minimal friction and goes in the current place of the pulley right now... im not sure on yalls

The AC compressor works opposite of a supercharger compressor.
AC = low volume, high pressure SC = high volume, low pressure As for cooling the air intake - SVT experimented with a Lightning setup that would use an ac system to cool the coolant in the intercooler system. If I remember right, they proved a 40-50 hp gain when using this system along with increasing spark.

Coolant. The system chilled a special reservoir that was before the intercooler. So on damand the chilled coolant would feed into the intercooler and back into the system. When this happened the ac would shut down as to not put a drag on the motor. The system was great for 1/4 mile runs or quick sprints. But after words would need a recovery time to chill the reservior coolant back down.
