lil question about automatics
kk i have a lil fun doing 80km/h/35mph(i think) and dropping her to 2nd or 1st gear, cuz then when i hit the gas she jumps forward and picks up alot faster. will doing this hurt my car. I also go 1st, 2nd. and drive sometimes lmao. and i can't afford to switch it to manual or could i have bought it as a manual.

Re: lil question about automatics
you will break your car by down shifting into a low gear if your at too high of a speed. basic rule of thumb. don't put the car into a gear it shouldn't be at.

DO NOT DOWNSHIFT WITHOUT A SHIFT KIT. You will murder your tranny, upshifting isn't as brutal

One mile is 1.6 km. 80 kmh is 50mph. 100 kmh is 62.5 mph.

common sense says its not a good idea but why does it explain how and when to do it in the owners manual? It specifically says to help braking downshift.

actually, we've had this conversation before. Someone said the computer will not let a gear engage if the rpms are not in range. This explains the "pause" some experience when shifting. The computer waits until the rpms are appropriate for that gear selection.
Having said all that, Im still dont push it too hard. I shift within reason when Im playing with the car. I will sometimes use the overdrive button to slow the car as well..... just never at WOT... only when I'm below 50 and I feel like hearing the exhaust. Saves brakes. |

cuz for the price i got this stang it was worth is. 2grand canadian and it had 142000kilometers on her and never winter drivin. only thing was it was auto. and it's true about the "paause" if im doing 80 and puts her in 1st she will not go into first she will go into second until i hit the approitate speed and rpms. like 50-60km/h

when u r in drive just look at the shiftpoints for a while so u get to know when to shift up and down in a manual is easier cause u feel when the car wants to shift up and down on auto no...... on an auto u just need to see at the shiftpoint cause if u downshift u will have a short pause until the computer detects is safe for a downshift

the thing in the manual means if your breaking hard and need to stop fast not for everyday use, but with out a shift kit the internals of the tranny aren't going to last

Also if you're in an auto you screwed yourself, loss of hp. But you also acquired something, better shifting. Enjoy not having to shift since you paid for it, your car is shifting better anyways.
