What cam?
I know its probably been asked a thousand times before but what camshaft would you recommend for an N/A motor. The only thing it might see is a 75 shot if i continute to get beat by stupid stuff at the track (ex, some old guy in a 4dr colbalt). Im leaning towards the comp max street/strip cam but im open to suggestions.

Comp max street cam!
SSMS lumpy cam is 70 bucks too much! You can also do a custom grind cam from some local machine shops

With the max street cam he can get away spending less than 450 on this entire swap. Why spend 70 bucks extra on a cam that's main goal is too sound like a "351".

your not reading enough on this. And a good change you wont go under 450 man ...
Their are custom specs better for power than the max or "lumpy" cam. Which btw ARE different specs. But Ive got the lumpy specced cam. Its been used but will still work just fine. Will consider selling when I figure shipping. PM if your interested. |

If he went with a cam from comp that puts him at 430 Renting tools are free. Gaskets are about 20, maybe a tad more Cam install lube is cheap If he got a custom ground cam, some places run for 250 bucks. The lumpy cam is spec'd to sound like a 351 according to the info from ssms. Both will net you about same gains for two totally different prices.

dont need 918s really ... 915s would work best Id bet. And what retainers did you get sir ? How much did you pay for all that. You need the lower intake gaskets. upper intake gasket. A big bottle of RTV. Water pump gasket. Timing cover gasket. Engine Oil. Oil Filter. Cam. Cam lube. Want a bottle of carb cleaner to clean things. Anti seize is supposed to be used on the upper intake bolts. And possible some sort of locker on lower intake bolts. Then if your smart you'll dyno tune. Cam wont even sound that great on a stock exhuast. So new exhuast. Some places may or may not rent the tool to remove valve springs while heads are on the car. I had to buy mine. If you take of the heads then you need head gaskets and copper spray.
May I please stop now ? |

Valve spring compressor is free with a deposit... You get money back Its called Advanced Auto, you may have been there. Buy all gaskets as a kit and its cheap.. Order all things from advanced online and get 20 percent off fyi. ![]() I did my complete swap for a tad over 550, no issues and paid full price for all items.. Remember you were the one who said you got your cam for so cheap.. I hope you didnt spend too much here. Now exhaust would be a good idea, but not part of the cam swap

As for exhuast ... if you leave stock exhuast on a new cam ... well ... stupidity ?
I had a cat back and you could tell how bogged down the power was. And It was not loud at all. I mean, if you got behind the car you could here the lope a lil, but it wasn't like it should have been ... and I guess he can run the cam w/o a tune or a tuner ... not wise either ... |

yes $100 shipped for the springs and retainers. already have the valve spring compressor. exhaust is stock manifolds to offroad H. This isnt just a cam swap, i have new headers on the way as well as the vap windstar kit. And i plan on taking my time with the install to get the heads milled and ported and lower intake ported. (havnt decided if ill attempt that or not)

SSMS "Lumpy" 218/226 .50/.50 108 -----$400 http://www.supersixmotorsports.com/p...RockerArms.pdf
Comp "Max" 218/226 .50/.50 112 ------$333 http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...?csid=838&sb=2 Both require new valve springs and ECU tuning according to the manufacturers. _

Any cam will require new valve springs due to ours being weak tits. If you call comp they also say push rods.. Will elimate chatter.
Then order the rods from summitt for 71 bucks if you go that route .Now the LSA difference.... The comp cam will add more bottom end whereas the lumpy one will add a tad more on the top end. The lumpy cam will show a slightly higher number on the dyno but I'm thinking it will have a weaker power curve.
