2001 V6 Ford Mustang Oil Pan Removal
I've been having trouble getting the oil pan pass the subframe to get it off. I do not have an engine hoist here at my house. Don't feel like spending $75 to tow car to the shop.
Oil pan has a hole in it. I was wondering if it was possible to drop the oil pan with a jack to raise the engine. The vehicle is held up by two jack stands and I've placed the floor jack under the transmission to raise the engine. I have the mounting engine mounting bolts completely clear of the frame bascially right above the mounts, but still need about another two inches to get the pan out. I got it lifted to the point where the transmission is actually touching the frame of the vehicle. can't go any higher. The only thing I would see is lowering the subframe but the nuts turn as I turn one side so I would have to get a second person to hold the nut while I loosen the bolt in the wheel well area. If anyone has an idea of what I could be missing that would be great if I dont have to lower the subframe. I still have the exhaust bolted on but it the tranny is hitting the frame loosening the exhaust shouldnt affect it? If not lowering the subframe would it change using an engine hoist? would that get it high enough? This mustang is my roomates... I never work on these cars. I own a 3000gt vr4 and I know that car like the back of my hand but this mustang is giving me issues on something i thought to be easy. The subframe is supposed to be lowered to get the oil pan out. Also the engine needs to be raised from the top. It would be best to have an engine crane attached to the engine and jacks to support the subframe. I would recommend getting a shop manual or other manual.
