Seafoamed and heard "Engine Knock"

Hey guys,

After reading all the post about Seafoam, I decided to give it a shot with my 2000 mustang (139,000 miles).

Seems to have gone well as the car run and idles very smooth now but I had a concern about the engine knock I experienced while doing this procedure.

I let the intake slurp up about 1/3 or more of Seafoam from my brake booster vacuum line and on a few occasion's the car about died and I heard knocking. --Is this normal?

Also, a few times it seemed to coincide with the knocking, I experieced smoke coming out the passenger side intake manifold.

Like I said though, car is running much smoother now but I was just concerned as to why I experience engine knock while doing this.

Is it a constant knock or does it only happen sometimes?

Also, where is it coming from (in the engine)

My guess for the smoke is un-burned seafoam? When did you do it/ how long did it sit before you decided to turn the car back on and let it all smoke out?

You did change your oil right after right? Seafoam hasn't been sitting in your engine for a long period of time correct?

Most sounds normal except for smoke on the passenger side intake manifold. Your cars engine is going to sounds like its dieing. it will act like its going to die if it does and you havent put in the amount of seafoam you are wanting, start it back up and finish the rest. i am going to check my intake manifold today when i seafoam again, i did it 3 days ago but there was alot of smoke so im going for another try to see if its any less.

you do not need to change your oil after sucking in through the pcv valve, only if it goes into your oil do you need to change it. i would imaging if it was sitting for a long period of time it would have become hydro locked.

I know this. I was just saying that because he said he put 1/3 into a vac line. So I assumed he put 1/3 into the crankcase. Which if sitting in oil for a long period of time would most likely cause a knocking of some sort.

Yeah I only put it in the intake and fuel tank. The knocking does not exist anymore, only when I was sucking up the seafoam from the brake booster vacuum line. I was really just curious because the car is running amazing now but I heard a consistent engine knock that seemed to have come from the "top" of the valve/intake manifold area while doing this. The car was just sitting at idle and sucking up the seafoam but would knock really loud like I threw a rod for about 5 seconds then go away then come back. After I started the car about 30 minutes later it was perfect and started right up with no noise.

My mistake, i could see you assuming that..but OP why did you go through the brake booster??? i believe that only feeds half or less cylinders, the pcv valve hose feeds all.

Don't worry about it. I see how I got confused. Not a problem.

Also op dgt is right brake booster doesn't feed all cylinders.

REALLY? aaahhh. I guess I will do it over again. I just read a ton of post mentioning to use the brake booster hose. So i should feed it though the passenger side pcv valve coming off the valve cover?

Yes but put it in the end that goes to the crankcase.

You mean from the crankcase through the intake manifold right?

In other news:

When seafoaming use a vacuum hoes off the actual upper intake manifold, the brake booster only feeds 1/2 of the cylinders.
