Electronic Problems??kinda sorta?

So today i got my radar detector(thank you HMUSN) So i went to plug it in to the cigarette lighter down below the stereo and it didnt work. so then i figured it was a bad connection or didnt have it plugged in all the way. I went through the possiblities in my head and figured that it was a bad lighter or electricla spot. so i plugged it into the one in the console(idk if you guys have one but i do) i plugged it in..and it worked! when i got home i tore apart part of the dash and found out this:

probably a new connector spliced in. You could just line the inside of the one thats bad with a little bit of aluminum foil and then plug it back in. if your lucky it'll work and cost ya nothin lol.

If all else fails, you could run one of those outlet extensions from your console spot. Heck, it ends up being a good place to stash it when your not using it. I use my console for my phone charger and toss it in there when Im not using it. It may look shitty having wires running across your car like that though.

yea. Thats the one I use most. But do you want a wire running all up over your shifter n stuff. I guess you could run it down around the passenger side seat then up to where you want it.

I bought an extension at harbor frieght for like $4.99. It works great.

should work without a wire it will just complete the connection for a full circut since you still have power running to it

Before you start ripping apart your connector, you checked the fuse, right?

I'd guess they'd be on the drivers side somewhere under the steering wheel on the bottom part of the dash. I don't have a V6 so i don't know for sure.

ok lets say the fuse is fried

why would one cigarette lighter work...when the other one doesn't?

Yea it just occured to me why would their be three prongs anyway. It takes power and ground to run a cigarette lighter. There probably never was suposed to be a wire running to that empty port in the connector. my guess is there's a fuse out or a short somewhere. test the wires and see if either of them have power. Maybe your cigarette lighter itself is bad

If they're on separate fuses, that'd explain it.

I have two lighters on my Windstar, each one has a fuse.
