How do you break an oil filter wrench, LOL. Was it old?
And you're welcome, I'm happy to have helped.

I hope your next oil ordeal goes smoother.

Hmm, I was under the impression that you should only tighten the filter by hand. I've heard that over-tigntening is bad for the seal.

I'm not trying to be an ass, just wanted to put that out there. Eventually someone will come along and tell one of us that we are wrong.

i change my oil every 2000 mile and my car is on 243000 and i hand tighten tightly, but you can use the wrench i guess, just dont over do it the seal expands and seats over time so over tightening can mess it up, and make sure there is a film of oil on the seal before you put it on, but i bet you already knew that

i install and pull mine by hand when i can, but you can get the new oil filter socket down at your local parts store cheap... been in a few hard spots sometimes working on various vehicles where I have had to punch the screw driver through the filter to take it off, crude and messy but effective.

Ok, I will Seriously, Ford put out a service bulletin about oil leaks from the filters on the 3.0 Taurus, 3.9 Lincoln & T-bird as well as some others and the fix was to tighten the filter hand tight and then an additional 3/4 of a turn using a filter wrench. I don't do it on every filter just those models above and it seems to work but sometimes ya play hell getting them off.

the other fix is stop taking it to jiffy lube or similar, not to mention how they want to run the impact gun on your oil drain plug, but that's if they even remember to fill your oil back up.

I go to jiffy lube. I changed my oil once, and for $5 more than it costs me, they get dirty and dispose of my old oil.

I watch over them and make sure they do their job. I never accept the "you have a light out on your license plate, i can get you a new one for $5" ploy. i reply, "well, just plug it back in because i bought a new light on my way here and just put it in." I haven't been ripped off yet, but they have tried. It is cheaper than taking an out of warranty car to ford and more economical than doing it yourself.

That video was interesting. Now I feel like going to see if they will try to rip me off.

I sure as hell know that it's crazy to pay a place $70 for a synthetic oil change and a fluid check I can do myself in 2 minutes.

Of course that price may vary, but that's what it is at my local drive-in place. For me, it's worth it do do my own oil change.
Once, I went there with my parents' truck, they didn't even put the windshield wipers on correctly.

It is $35.99 for a Jiffy Lube oil change near me. It takes them about 15-20 minutes start to finish and would take me an hour plus clean up and disposal.

an hour for an oil change cmon give yourself some credit. I do it in class in 20 minutes and i barely spend $30 for everything. I just like knowing that it was done by me.

not to mention you can also spot for coolant mix in the oil, don't expect jiffy lube to tell you that one!
