How To Clean Your EGR Valve
I'm not sure if there is a full picture write-up but if not then enjoy ^^
KK to start off you will need to un-plug your EGR hoses from top of the EGR valve itself like so... ![]() once you have un-pluged this hose your can see the rusted on 1 1/16 inch bolt I do suggest soaking alot with penetration oil of some kind before attempting to undo it. ![]() You will undo the rusted bolt / hose first then remove the 2 10mm bolts that actually hold the EGR valve to its block plate. ![]() Now once you have removed this you should see alot of build-up inside of the EGR valve itself. To clean I used an actual EGR cleaning solution here at my dealership, but soapy water solution and a wire brush works good to. Letting this soak for a bit helps alot. Now I have found that simply using a wire brush cannot remove all of the carbon deposits so I used a tiny pick and actually scratched the walls clean. ![]() ![]() And of coarse to install just reverse the removal process and in no time you will have your freshly clean EGR valve installed and back up running again. ^^ GL and I hope this helps somewhat. If anyone has questions I will try to help with what I can.

I'm no engine expert so please excuse my ignorance...
What is the EGR for and what are the risk/benefits of deleting it?

The EGR bring exhaust gasses back into the upper intake to be reburned. I believe it helps keep cylinder temps down a bit as well. Advantages of deleting it are pretty much just easier to change spark plugs, easier to install a supercharger/turbo, cleaner looking engine bay, and I believe the delete it required to install a Windstar upper intake.

I bought the EGR delete from ford dealership for $12.50 came with a gasket and block off plate and a cap for the passenger side exhaust manifold/header. Took literally five minutes to remove. I also went with a colder thermostat to combat any possible increase in core temp. I have heard from several people who deleted theirs that they saw no noticeable increase in core temps.

It's probably not the best thing you could clean it with but I've heard of people doing it before so I think you'll be fine.

Check your EGR Sensor, I can almost 100% guarantee you that that's the problem. I'd just get a new one, replace it and clear your code. Then drive it around for about 40-50 miles to see if it kicks back on or not. If it doesn't then you're golden like a shower.

Rubbing Compound
I used this on my EGR without even taking it off. It's sold for manifolds but my EGR valve looks brand new. Stuff works, I am here to say and after 3 months it still looks damn good.
