The newer model V6's are designed for 5w20. The tolerances in the motor are alot less so a thinner oil is required for proper lubrication. In the older pushrod motors however, 10w30 is reccomended by ASE. To explain the numbers so you know

10W30

10- This is the viscosity of the oil upon startup at relative temperature.

30- This is the viscosity of the oil after normal operating temperature has been obtained.

Viscosity is (in laymans terms) how slick the oil is.

You don't want too small a viscosity index or your engine will push it through the journals too quick and the motor will not properly lubricate and migrate heat. I use 10W30 in all my vehicles except my truck and I run a 10w30/20w50 mix because it has 300K on it, and the lifters need replacing but I am too lazy with my 4 jobs.
