2001 3.8 to carbed 5.0

So, i know there have been a couple of threads about this.. but i havn't posted in the tech section in a while so i figured why not. I'm thinking about swapping a carbed 5.0 into my car next summer. I'm trying to find an estimate on how much it will cost me to get this done. So, what i'm asking is, what all do i need to change/buy. I've read that i need a new K member out of a 94-96, or just an aftermarket one, and i'd need to buy a FordF 8.8 rear end. So, what else do i need?

Also, I have the engine lined up to do it already, It's my brothers at the moment, but i'm sure he'll sell it to me since he doesn't have anything to put it in since he's selling his 64 1/2. It comes with a cam and a different intake (i'm positive about the cam, do not know if it was an intake, or if it was something else that it had done to it.)

You use 94 style motor mounts dont swap the k member. need a different flywheel 56 tooth I believe. Few other things but not to sure.

I think the swap would be pretty straight foward, shouldnt be to hard to do.

That's what i was thinking. I've got a year to save up, but i need an estimate on what i'm going to need to buy so i have a goal about what's needed to be saved.

I can probably go get the motor mounts and rear end from a junk yard easily

what would be done to the 5.0 motor?

is it just gonna be the typical junk part motor?, maybe gt40 heads and intake and e303 cam or something.

Definitely dont leave the 5.0 stock before you drop it in.

right now, the motor is out of a foxbody, he wants to take it out and put an old 455 rocket in it, so he's getting rid of it. It's got a different intake, couldn't tell you what it is. And it's got a holly carb, couldn't tell you specifications on it though. there's a cam waiting for it in a shed at my brother in law's house, and i'm not sure what else i would do to it.

I wouldnt either unless it was a stroker. Still then your limited to around 500rwhp with the stock block. The v6 block can take a little bit more abuse with good rotating assemblly.

yeah but the money it costs to build a v6 capable of running 500rwhp safely would justify a 5.0 swap to me. No major parts for the v6 are cheap, i hate it.

What does ssms want for forged pistons and rods...$1300!? yeah they arent tricking me with that bs price.

With $1300 you could probably build two 300whp 5.0 motors

Rocket 455 Wish I had one of those in my 1970 Cutlass S, I'm stuck with the Rocket 350. Those things are absolute torque monsters. Even in those enormous boats they could launch them into the 10's without too much trouble.

I'd Do EFI personally, but there isn't much out there. People either just buy a GT, or build the 6er.

Would love to finally see someone on here do it though. Im sure its been done several times though. Cause he'll Ive got a 289 and a 302 I could have used ...

Dingo, are you referring to the 2011 5.0 ?
and what is this: "Soon 98 gt rear-end w/ 3.27 gears? 24lb inj + 255Iph"

Nope, just poor choice of words, all that shits stuff im planning on doin to the 6er soon, along with things not mentioned. why do you ask?

A newer 5oh would be b*tchin! but I personally would go with the 95 platform.

Guys, it wont be till early summer of next year, but i'll be sure to reserve this thread for it! Almost positive that i'm going to go through with it, despite all the badgering on how difficult it will be.. i think it'll be an awesome project to do. I'll be sure to take pictures and report on what all i needed to change so you guys can use it as a reference in case you want to do it.

Hey (whyxitx) I'm planning on doing the same swap to my 2003 stang. So far I know you have to get an older fuel pick up as the one in the V6 stang runs about 40PSI and will destroy the carb jets and get all of the motor sending units out of an old EFI 5.0 so they will work with the newer age gauges in your car. Here is a list of sending units you will have to wire up seperatly from the ECM (oil pres, temp, rpm sensor, speedo sensor, and some work on the fuel sytem that includes rewiring the fuel level sensor with out the old pump. I hope this info helps. I've been researching this project for about 6 months and this is what I have found so far, I will share anything else I find

nope, just install a regulator and turn it down to 8-12 psi.. more than enough for a carb. you can make the sensors from your six work as well so you can keep your gauges... the 7.5 has proved to be a beast and take alot of power so you CAN run it for a good while as long as drag racing isnt brought into the equation. cause ive seen 300rwtq shear a 8.8 gear before and i'd imagine a 7.5 would be just a susceptable to damage. im not sure what trans you have, if its a t5 swap the input shaft and bellhousing, not sure on autos though i do have a friend with a former 98 6er with a 427 running the stock auto with a little work done to it so app. its working for him hes been running it for over two years now. motor mounts from a 94-95 5.0 will work as well. i'm gonna recommend for ease of install you run a msd setup or a hei setup, so theres your fuel and fire taken care of there. swap the speedo sensor over if you change trannys as well.

Actually let me recant part of my statement.... your probably gonna have to do an inline fuel pump.. the reason... i'm trying to figure out how you could make the stock pump work without the sensor on the fuel rail telling it to work.. but u can always find a faithfull old holley blue pretty cheap

oh and as far as the psi.... i data logged 50-55 at idle using sniper recon.... more than enough to kill a well built carb.
