HID Kit/Alarm Question
Alright, im new to this site as well to the modding thing since i just picked up my car about a month ago ha. My names Ben, i drive a 98 V6 Convertible Mustang. So i have a few questions, and hopefully im not breaking any rules, if i am just let me know and ill delete the post if needed. So here we go(im sorry for the huge post, just bear with me i dont ask for help very often haha)
I live in Arizona, and i do lots of driving on dark rural roads (no street lights), especially during the summer(do lots of camping). So my headlights are just horrible i cant see anything when im driving down these roads. So i was thinking of buying an HID kit, nothing too bright, 4300k, 6000k tops, just dont want to hit a deer or coyote or something else one of these day. The kit is from a site called stangmods, 6000k single beam kit for 98 Mustang(sorry i didnt know i couldnt post links yet) . My question is ive looked up threads on here and have read conflicting things. Ive read that HIDs are not meant for stock Mustang headlights, that you should pick up some projectors. BUT i have also read the opposite, that projectors are horrible with HIDs(light scatters). So im lost, i have no issue buying some new headlights, though i would prefer not to buy projectors since it gives the car a "ricer" look. Also read that the bulbs wont fit stock headlights which is why you should buy projectors, haha like i said, im lost. So just hoping i can get an answer from someone with a bit more experience on this subject. My second question is about alarm systems, im planning on buying one. I want a remote start since its painful getting into my car after work its been sitting in the toasty AZ sun all day i would like to cool it down a bit before hand. But i cant afford a "combo" system at the moment since im doing a few other things to the car at the moment(replacing all 4 tires, new top, new window motors) moneys gonna be tight. So i wanted to buy a basic alarm with keyless entry, I would go with Viper or Python, i know theyre both basically clones of each other ha. So i wanted to know if its possible to buy the basic alarm, get it installed and then later buy a remote start system(not a combo kit, just the remote start) and get that installed and they would "work in harmony" or is that not an option, and i HAVE to buy the combo system? Reason is, i can install the alarm easy, did it before, the remote start im sure i could figure out, my brother could help. You know save some money, since if i bought it at a shop and got it installed id be dropping over $300 and i just wont have that after the tires and stuff. So has anyone done that before? Any help would be greatly appreciated =) Thanks for reading, hoping to get some help. |

4300ks will give you the best usable light, 5000ks are pretty decent and 6000ks are starting to get blue with less visible light output.
Both stock headlight housings and standard aftermarket projector housings are horrible with HIDs. You really won't see much improvement over stock since you'll have to aim your headlights down so low to not blind other drivers with your low beams. The correct way to do it is to retrofit real HID projectors into stock housings. There's a thread on it HERE although you have different headlight housings the principal is the same.

mp4 answered the headlight question so I'll cover the alarm/remote start. Skip the alarm. They're crap. I honestly have no idea why people continue to purchase aftermarket alarm systems. Most of them are too sensitive and go off when people simply get close to the vehicle. Since that happens quite often, most people have taken to ignoring car alarms. The only thing people think when a car alarm goes off is "I hope the owner shuts that damn thing off soon." After maybe 5 or 10 minutes they might go look out the window to see what's taking so long, but I'll bet you I could pop a radio out in under a minute and a good thief could do it faster. So skip the alarm and save yourself some money. Plus there's no way in hell I would want to fuck with the security system after all the trouble the PATS system seems to give people. Just get yourself a nice remote start and use the money you would have spent on something more worthwhile. Dark tint may help with the heat.

They really don't do much of anything anymore except piss people off.

I got my HID kit from here
HID Kits, BMW Aftermarket Bumpers & Lighting, DEPO - DDM Tuning it was the 55Watt hi/lo bulbs because the wiring harness came with that and was already all hooked up. i could not be happier. My light does scatter quite a bit with the stock headlights but its still so much of an improvement over my original headlights. They will work find in stock headlights, however if you put them in projector headlights, the heat coming off the HIDs will begin to melt the projector housing on the inside, between a projectors and stock headlights, go stock, between retrofit and stock, go retrofit as the projectors that the member puts in them is made to handle actual HID's heat output. i will be doing that retrofit soon but will be paying r3dfyre to do it since hes done a few already and can only get better (not that he needs to, all looks perfect) I'm not sure about the alarm situation, I looked into the same thing for my car awhile back, i believe the shop said that i could come back and have remote start installed at a later time if i wanted so thats a real possibility. |

Alright, thanks guys, think i got what i needed ha. Ill hold off on the HIDs till i figure out the retrofit. I emailed r3dfyre now ill just wait. The alarm yea im not a fan of actual alarms, i was looking at a Python 1401, remote start with keyless entry but no siren. Ive helped my brother install remote starts in a Dodge Durango and his Mazda Tribute. But have heard the PATS is a nightmare to deal with. And wouldn't want to mess something up, witch is what is keeping me from just digging in ha.
The tint is something i was looking into but have heard most tints dont play well with remote starts. But ive seen that Viper has a tint now, and they say it doesnt mess with your remote start. Seeing how both products are made by the same company i doubt theyre lying right? Anyone have personal experience with this tint? Or any tint that wont interfere with the remote start? Aside from that i got the answers i needed, so thanks guys =) I appreciate it |

Well the guy I talked to said something along the lines of the tint having some "metallic" thing in it or something that got in the way of the signal from the remote. I personally don't know, like I said still pretty new to this
