Pypes V6 True Dual Exhaust Legel In Cali?

Hello. I'm new to the forum but whenever I have a question I usually end up at this site. But here is my situation: I want to put a true dual exhaust on my stock V6 2004 mustang but I've been hearing that its illegal now due to strict emissions laws in California. I was wondering if anyone knows if this is true and if so are their any true dual exhaust systems that are legal in California for my 2004 V6 Mustang. Like I said I'm new so I apologize if this answer has already been brought up. Thank you for taking the time to provide me with any knowledge. Also here it the link to the exhaust I was referring to:http://www.americanmuscle.com/pypes-...ed-9804v6.html

As long as you dont touch anything that has to do with emissions (Cats, o2, w/e else) you should be fine. Different pipes and mufflers dont change what comes out of the tailpipes other than sound

i live in cali, and my dual flowmaster setup is fine, it should say on the pypes site if the kit is legal in 50 states, but it shouldnt be a problem as long as you dont mess with your cats and o2 sensors like six banger just said

Short answer: I really doubt it, and Nukka, I'm curious what system you have that passes a legit smog inspection.

Longer answer:
In California, you're allowed to do just about anything you want after the cats. However, if this is a "true dual" system, that tells me that it's replacing the factory Y-pipe and cats, which is a huge no-no unless the replacement setup has a CARB number. It's not a matter of having cats or not here, it's a matter of having the factory setup or a CARB-approved replacement. So, if the factory setup is a single pipe with 2 cats, that's what has to be there. You can't replace it with two separate pipes, even if those two pipes each have their own two cats (yes, that part is pretty stupid if you ask me, but it's the law).

For the ultimate answer, you're gonna have to talk to your local smog ref. No matter what anyone here says, myself included, the smog ref is gonna be the one with the actual authority over whether your car is legal or not. Talk to them BEFORE you spend a dime on parts.

First off thank you dgt_mustang for the kind welcome. Hmm, the way it looks to me true dual exhaust in cali is out of the question. I'll still contact my local smog ref to make a final decision. Thank you all for you information. It was extremely helpful!

wrong..

you can have true duals as in divorced duals, cut everything off behind the cats, weld in 2.25 or 2.5 piping add flow 40's or thrush welded add tips. done.
