positive airflow
Good or bad idea???
I have the FIPK ..which I wish I didnt now. It comes with a shroud but its incomplete and doesnt seal off the filter completely. Hot engine air still spills into the "box" area. I went ahead and sealed it off the best I could. Now I'm guessing its getting most of its air from the fender well ( I removed the rubber silencer and now its just a good sized hole there). My question is this. Would putting an electric fan in that hole be beneficial. NOT to be anything more than a means to keep cooler fender air flowing over the filter. Also to keep positive air pressure in the box to keep the hot engine air from entering. Again, not to try and make it RAM air or anything fancy or techy at all. Just simply to keep cooler air in the box. I figured it would be pretty simple to hook a fan up to a switch and fuse to turn off and on when its hot. Think this would be a waste of time to try? Maybe I'll take the temperature at the filter with and without it running or something. IDK??

No pic cuz Im only brainstorming yet. But yea, something like a real small fan. It could only be 2 or 3 inces in diameter to fit in the hole. Plus, I would still want air to pass through if the fan failed. A computer fan would probably be perfect.

well maybe u can put like what 2 120mm computer fans in the hole ummm idk u can put the Tt(thermaltake) fans that adjust to the heat or something..

that might work becuase the hole is kind of elongated... 2 would fit of that size. I was thinking have it run all the time when the engine is on.

since i work with pc's u can go here Xoxide buy the fans and a fan controling system u can hook em up but look for a way to connect em to a electric current

This is nuts. Do you know about this thing? I found it on your site. Does this thing "create" cold air? It says it creates "freezing" temperatures.

thats for watercooling it can bring u temps of 45 degrees in a car dont think so but well thats just a lil plate for a pc water cooling system

you could use somethin like this though http://www.xoxide.com/120mm-nidec-fan.html btw i'm also into computers and thats one of the sites i go to for computer parts and whatnot. i've got a clear acrylic case with that fan they sell that displays the temperature on it lol

They had fans there for like $2. That makes this worth trying unless I hear of some negative effect Im not thinking about. So far it seems like worst case is that it would be just a waste of my time.
If I try this Im going to take the temp at the filter after getting the engine up to temperature. Once with the fan running and once with it off to see if it really makes a difference. I know right now it gets hot as hell in that air box. There just has to be a way to make this thing better. Im so convinced the best setup is RAM or having the filter run right into the fender somehow. |

I love this tech stuff. I work for a company that depends on state of the art electronics. Just not fans and stuff like this. Anyway, Im going to try it.

Dang, I dont want anything exploding in there but it cant really do to much damage. The filter on the FIPK has like a metal mesh in it. Im sure a plastic fans not going to disintegrate and even if it does it wouldnt hurt much.... probably.

I got a dell xps gen 2 laptop to use for school and whatnot. its not the newest one now but it still has a 256mb Go 6800 Ultra thats pretty good at tackling and new game these days. Its a bit overkill to be carrying around to and fro class but i mean the 17in" screen is gorgeous! lol even though when i first got it the AC adapter didnt work at all. it put out like 1/100th the voltage it was suposed to. and then come to find out the battery was under recall but got that replaced for free so all is good now

this is a wack idea! it will not work, it will accually just hurt your performance. if you want a cooler intake charge goto advanced and get a thermal wrap and rap yo intake and exhaust, i know as soon as i get a chance i am. it makes a big difference by rapin the exaust, not as much with the intake though.

Re: positive airflow
232ci @~80%VE=92.8ci/rev 92.8ci(4krpms)=371200ci/min 371200/(12^3)=~214.8cf/min So at 4k rpms you'll need a fan assembly that would exceed 214.8cfm in order to maintain positive pressure. At half that, 2k rpms, the fan assembly needs to exceed 107.8cfm.
