But stupid stuff like that is part of the reason I don't have a 4.2... And when I fix the 2nd half of the why I don't have a 4.2 I'll yank the current block and have it gone through and bored, stroked, and stuffed, maybe 4.2 or 4.3 haven't made up my mind yet. Havent seen enough numbers on the 4.3 long rods vs the 4.2s

I understand its a direct bolt up and it reuses almost everything from the 2001-4 I don't think much of the 2000 and older stuff is any good with the 4.2 swap. But I have only done the surface research, haven't really got in and gotten my hands dirty.

I know when I go 4.2 it will be a H/C/I/SC with forged internals. But as I said before that's just me.
Mike said it best:
Do you need a wire harness to take your block put a 4.2 crank in it?? Nope

Sir, being an internally balance and 04, mine was a SIMPLE swap. Not to sure on yours as to how that works w/ external balance which im sure you have.

i really wanna see what a stock 4.2 cam would do in a 3.8.

you dont even need to change springs or anything since they have the same lift, seems like such a cheap mod. the motor would probably respond much better to bolt ons aswell

if you have external balance like me which you probably do, you'll be needing a new flywheel to swap to the internal balance 4.2, also he'll keep the balancer thats already on the 4.2. everything else is the same.

Mike is selling a 4.2 cam
I think a dyno has been done but on a single port which is useless info.
It ought to sound a take bit better then the stock cam too.

People say an increase of 5ish hp and like 10+ tq. Thats almost the same as a windstar kit and Id let it go much cheaper then 450 lol

yeah the sound must come from the 116lsa vs the 110lsa. i think the you would get more than 5 hp and 10tq though because the motor would probably respond to bolt ons a little more. whereas it seems boltons dont do squat to stock splitport.

99-04 3.8v6s: 178/194. 116 LCA 111 IC, .247/.258

96-98 3.8v6s: 184/202. 110 LCA 105 IC, .245/.259

even the single ports have a better cam than the splitport 3.8.

its no wonder why a cam swap unlocks so much power on these motors. the stock cam is definitely what limits this motor. usually on most cars its the intake or the heads but theres no doubt the small ass cam in the splitports is the reason why adding a cai or tb adds like 1hp..its because this motor gets plenty of air with the stock intake and heads, it just doesnt have a big enough cam to match the air supply.

I was to understand that all 4.2 engines were internal balance, only the 3.8 had the internal/external differences after late 2000
