4.2 question

So my dad has an f150 and its been sale for a while and no one wants it (lol) so I was wondering sence its a 4.2 and its just a 3.8 block with a long stroke.....it shoulld just "drop" right in my car right....id have my dads truck for a complete donor

Bolt up to the engine mounts no problem?
Bolt to tranny and drive shaft with no problem?

And sence I wanna cam my car and sence its still a 3.8 block the lumpy cam will still work no problem right?? I just wanna make sure lol
They seem like stupid questions but I wanna just make sure

I know ppl will say if your gunna swap v6s why not just drop a 8...well that involves a lot of work....in my mind th 4.2 should just drop right in......and if you have a donor then bam no problem right...

There's really no reason to even want to do this. It's not like they really make much more power. That's going to be a lot of work and money(even if you don't pay for it his truck will lose a ton of value) for ~10hp.

I'm sure he can sell the f150 for more than what this would be worth to you.

Because when you're actually building a block with forged internals it's just as easy to make it a 4.2. Yeah, there are some small gains from going to a 4.2 but none worth an engine swap and that amount of time or money.

Have you talked to your dad about this? I can't imagine him going along with scrapping his truck so your car can gain 10hp.

you may only get an extra 10 hp but you also get an extra 30+ more lb-ft of torque over the 3.8

If your going to do the 4.2 swap you better go forged internals and get ready to go FI to make it worth the trouble of doing the heart transplant.

As for the lumpy cam I'm not sure if it'll work with the longer stroke of the 4.2l you may have to contact Comp Cams and ask them.

After I get a new house I plan on building a 4.2 w/ forged internals and going S/C .

To me its not worth it if ur not going FI. Now if ur going FI the its well worth the headache.

1. I don't know why its a headache its pretty simple.

2. Some people missed the lesson in power under the curve.

3. Cam will work.

if your all about budget building this is what i would do...

pull the f150 motor and keep it all stock except throw a cam in it. get the comp cam max street/strip cam if your going n/a or get a blower cam if your going to supercharge it.

drop it in your mustang and cut out under your scoop so the f150 intake will fit. then dyno tune the car after you decide if you want to do anything else (forced induction, nitrous..)

take your old 3.8 and swap in the stock 4.2 cam that came out of the 4.2. (its a little better)

then drop the 3.8 into the f150 and use it as your beater truck.

btw, is the f150 auto or 5 speed?

I planned on taking the engine out (4.2) leaving it on the engine jack/lift build it on the jack/lift....like u said n/a cam (lumpy max street cam) and then when thts complet just drop it in....

Also my dads f150 is a stick shift

You mentioned the stock f150 intake will not fir...I soon realized that....so I have a windstar intake from vap just waiting to be put on (which I'm waiting till I get my cam to do it all at once) the windstart will "botl" to the lower intake of the 4.2 like the 3.8...right?? And still clear stock hood...??

Anything from the 94-04 RWD 3.8 and 4.2 blocks will fit any other 94-04 RWD 3.8 and 4.2 block ....

From vans, to mustang, single port or split, to supercoupe and everything in between.

(mustangmike) has a dyno day less than a month, you can wait till then to find out instead of guessing.
