Squeaking and Transmission Fluid Q's

Hi guys,

I have a 2000 sixxer, manual transmission.

A couple of months ago I went to get my oil changed and fluids checked before traveling back to Atlanta from Denver. The guys at the oil change place said my tranny fluid was low, but my friend said a manual tranny at only 120 k miles shouldn't be low and said the guys were probably just trying to find something to get me to spend some extra cash. So I wrote it off.

Recently though, my car kinda shakes when accelerating in first gear. I just had my clutch changed about 10 k miles ago or a little over a year and half ago. And sometimes its get difficult to shift into another gear. Not all the time, but just sometimes, which makes me think the tranny fluid may actually be low. What do you guys think?

Also, I have an annoying perpetual squeaking sound when my car is in motion. I can hear the squeak when I can close to buildings or going through tunnels and what not. It goes away when I press the clutch in. Could I need a new set of belts do you think? I have never replaced the belts on the car and I have had it since 50 k miles and I am not aware that they have ever been changed in the 11 years of the cars life.

Tranny fluid and new belts?

Same thing happened to me. I had my clutch replaced a d about 10k miles later it started shaking and squeaking. Had a shop look at it and my driveshaft was coming loose. So check that because that's what my problem was

Yeah, I know my drive shaft is loose already, because it knocks sometimes when momentum changes quickly from stop to start and a shop I was at showed me because he pushed up on it and it moved a little.

Did tightening it up fix the issue?

Just got back from the shop. Apparently, the guy who installed clutch stripped a one of the bolts that connects the drive shaft to the rear axle.

Now a simple charge for a half hour of labor to tighten a bolt has turned into a quoted $300 bucks at 2 hours of labor 90 bucks to drill out the bolt and rethread.

Any ideas, other than find someone who can do it a little more efficiently.
