engine rebuild and M112?

Okay so my engine just rolled over 170k and im wanting more power out of it. I was thinkning since the miles were so high I might as well get the engine rebuilt so it will last longer and basically be new. Well im in indiana and have no clue who could do a rebuild, any idea where to go or a rough estimate of how much it would cost? Im planning on going with mysteed's M112 kit, i love the whine and it puts me around 275-300HP which is where i want to be with my car. I also know you need a tune for the M112, i have an SCT tuner now from AM, could i use that with custom tunes? Sorry about all the questions i just want everything done right and want to know how much i need to save to get this thing going, thanks guys!

Its going to cost a good chunk of change to get your engine rebuilt if you cant do the work yourself...As for the mysteed kit, id say go for it if thats what you really want...Im doing a s/c build right now and ill warn you now...Its very very expensive. Anyways, AmericanMuscle is a great company, but they wouldnt even send mustangmike a tune for his cam...Take the tuner to a dyno with you and they'll do the rest..

A good rebuild is going to be expensive if you have someone else do it... might as well buy a used engine with low miles on it.

Miles don't matter on an engine if you plan on building it. All that matters is how the engine is holding up. Check compression and such, if all goes fine then boost it.

You can do it yourself if you can handle a socket. Theres a bunch of youtube vids on how to do it. Just need to be able to take out your spark plugs

You might be surprised at the shape your 3.8 is in, those things can run forever it seems.

Rebuilds aren't too hard on OHV's either, especially if you have a complete engine to begin with (no scratching your head on what parts you may or may not need.)

And M112's are pretty fun. (At least on 4.6 DOHC's )

Where in Indiana are you? I might be able to give you a hand if I get some free time, and I'm not wrenching on mine.

Is this going to be a daily driver? I looked into the M112 setup for a DD and I was quickly ushered away from it due to heatsoak, thats when the block heats up and the S/C begins to heat up as well and thus increases the intake air temp, since the M112 isn't an intercooled S/C.

If you plan on being a DD you may want to look into a centrifugal S/C.

Just to give some numbers, a little while back my mom had a burnt cylinder ring in her 4runner. (She beats the shit out of it) and it was like 3grand for a rebuild..

Damn toyotas! The machine shop here in town charges 750$ to refresh a 3.8 and another 300$ for heads. That is if nothing like the crank has to be replaced.

As long as you do run meth you should be ok with cranking up the boost a little too. like 10-12psi.
