Yes... it sounds similar. I'll take a vid of the engine later and post for comparison.

Thanks can't wait to see. BTW what is BG MOA and I'm guessing Restore is a brand.

Be careful driving that car too hard OP, last thing you want to do is throw a rod and end up needing a new block or something.
The ticking has changed my driving style and I don't want to do much more damage than there already is. If it is a bad rod, would there be a loss in compression and affect engine performance or something. I have no CEL and there's no change in performance, just the added ticking.

Here's a couple of rod knock vids...

BG MOA is and oil additive that i used to use at dealerships. Restore is this blue stuff with what looks like metal shavings in it. They both are similar, its bondo, only for your engine.

sorry, 10 piece wings and pitcher of blue moon for $20 got me all sorts of distracted. anyway, here is the sound of a sticky lifter. when i say gone, i really mean its gone, its only on inital startup then fades away relative to the time the engine idles down.

edit: i bought the car with 29k miles, it now has 69k miles and the noise has always been there. its embarassing, but doesnt create an issue with performance or mileage or driveability, just a little FYI. I think your is something closer to the crank than mine though... good luck.

3.8 RIP

Problem escalation may have involved more than one failure in a driver side cylinder system and valve train. McQueen was correct in trying to watch out for other components to fail... the fact was eventual since the minor sticky lifter symptom may have been just a part of something else. Being the fouth owner, I purchased the vehicle wherein the first owner let the vehicle get repossesed via satellite killswitch at a Wendy's and was purchased afterwards by women drivers after it was repossesed.

Options:

1. Have engine rebuilt (approx $1500)

2. Have 3.8 engine replaced (approx $1100 - engine and labour)
Turbo, Port Polish and Windstar Components and Install ($2400)
Comp Cam + Install ($600-800)
3.73 /T-Lok + Install ($6-800)

3. 4.6 V8 Engine Swap ($2000-2500 with A Grade used motor, Components + Install)
GT/Mach 1 Rear-end + supension ($1000... maybe if used)
5 Speed Manual Transmission.... ($?) Should be the same

4. Sell Vehicle (Cost $7k, Upgrades $2k, 70K Mileage, May get $4-5K with knock)
Buy GT after sale ($15k with 70k Mileage or more)

5. Trade in for 2012 5.0.... (The only way for me to get the 5.0 is to give this car to my daughter when she gets her license next year... "But honey... she really likesthe car and I need one")

I'm working on doing the 4.6 swap. If it does happen, I'll start a thread and keep you guys posted on the progress...

If you guys got a better advice, I would truly appreciate.

Adryan

Thought of other engine swaps... There's also a 429 cu.in. in a Thunderbird sitting in my folk's garage... but there are too much mods and downtime. 4.6 swap seems to be a straight swap and i'm looking to get this done 2 weeks. I'll start the thread to get more info.

but if your giving it to your daughter, why not swap a 1.9l escort engine in it, she can't do much racing or damage with that motor but just get a donor car and the swap should be a cinch and cheap if you do it by yourself.

I'd give her a 2012 Shelby GT500 Super Snake ... but unfortunately, I am ashamed to say that I cannot. So she has to settle with my nostalgia since my first car was a '73 302 where my father took care of my ass to get it on the road at 15 before I even had a license...... and I smashed the shit out of it and the chrome bumper is still wrapped around that tree I think.

I'm aware of donor cars and all but keep in mind that I am not in the US. I am now Canadian, eh... as it seems. Options tend to be a bit skewed compared to when I was in New York. Canada is like Mars when it comes to cars.

ahh okay lol. and i know how you feel, my dad and I are workin on my first car, a 1966 mustang coupe with a 302 in it. My parents gave it to me when i was 12 and I have been restoring it little by little with my father. If your daughter is interested in cars and such you should get her involved

I had a cherry red '68 289 v8 when she was born... I was happy that herr seat fit. Me and her have been cooking together for a bit and she is now interested in the cullinary arts... maybe even professionally. She actually runs the kitchen for a local bar on a part time basis. I play the guitar and now she is recieving awards for her musical skills. Cars are next and driving them too.
