wet the headlight with soapy water, then put some toothpaste on it adn use a rag to buff it a little applying some pressure.

Basically you know how toothpaste is kinda crunchy like. almost like it has very fine sand in it. Well thats the idea behind it, its basically like wet sanding the light with a very very fine sandpaper.

if toothpaste isn't gritty enough for your headlights...there's a new kit at Advance i just used that is amazing...it's like a standard sanding kit, but it has a clear coat that you finish it with that has a 6 hour cure time before reinstall...i no longer need to buy new headlights lol and all for $20

btw...the kit is by sylvania...its in a yellow box

i have both products by headlamp lens restorer, the chemical that gets them clear and then the sealant to apply after. you just use a terry cloth rag with mild pressure in circles and its the best stuff, plus you have alot left over so you can keep it and use it again when the weather has taken its toll again, or do you friends and family and they'll be like "Damn!!"

i don't like those kits lol...i like a good sanding kit that solves the problem of hazing and not just covering it up for a timespan...

There's a headlight restorer kit by Meguiar's called "Powerball".

It worked better than the cure time liquid gel headlight stuff. However, if you are really fussy and the headlights are yellow now, you are going to be sanding and polishing for a while.

I've also found that here in the California sun, the headlights start to fade again in about 6 months. You can probably live with every other year, but you should be warned that none of these treatments are magic.

You should still be really impressed with how much better your headlights will look with even the smallest improvement.

Good luck!

Mine were straight yellow when I got the car, used I think the 3M kit with the 4 different grit sandpapers and the drill adapter, also I found that this stuff called Plast-x worked ok for the really tough yellow. Used that stuff first then used the 3M kit, my headlights are clear now!

I forgot one thing: take the headlights out before using the drill attachments on them

You don't want to mess up your paint.

Yes, toothpaste will work. Compare the ingredients to buffing compound and toothpaste. The major ingredients are gel, water, and silica (sand). Your toothpaste is just minty buffing compound with flouride.

Keep in mind it isn't as effective as buffing compound. You really don't need one of those kits, and you sure as hell don't need the infomercial stuff. For the most effective treatment, hit it with 1000-2000 grit sandpaper with some warm soapy water, then polish with a good buffing compound, and if you're really after a nice finish, a clearcloat.

You don't need to remove the headlights, just tape off the paint. That's a daily procedure for the professionals.

Blue magic (black magic) sell a bottle of headlight sealant. I haven't used it yet though.

i wet sand with 600, 1000, then 2000, polish them up, and then wax. works great, just takes a while.

Wow, those must be some pretty oxidized headlights if you went down to 600 grit. Most of the time 1000 grit or just some buffing compound will do it.
