First stang. Need suggestions. PLEASE!
I've got a 98 3.8L mustang w/ an auto. What short of o 347 engine swap can I do to get more juice outta my motor. I know there's a lot more potential there without major mods being done. I'd like to say Ty in advance for any and all advice

Welcome, And Congradulations on your Purchase or Recieval of the Car.
First mods I ever did to my 98 V6, Was a Good Oil Change, Filters and Fluids all around. Followed by a Tune up I am going to do tomorrow. And it depends on money, If youre like me.. Money is Hard to part with, But worth it for the car's health. Like I seen someone say before on this site. Cheap - Fast - Reliable. Pick Two. |

welcome to the site...please check out our stickies on mods and tips...that will answer 99% of your general questions quickly ![]() also...if you want any type of power out of a 3.8...especially a single port 3.8 (94-98) you're gonna need a power-adder again welcome

Trying to stay away from power adders honestly. I drive 80 miles a day so I need to retain some mpg. I don't wanna run down the track just be able to merge into traffic lol

@skargon...both can blow a motor just as well as the other...just depends on what a person wants out of the car...how much they have to spend, and what they'll be doing with the car...expect to spend 3k+ if a good power adder is what you're into @Dirty...you can, but you're not going to blow anyone away...even a 99-04 with a nice cam...built to a 4.2 and other bolt ons...you're still looking at less rwhp then a GT of the same year |

well, my 2 Cents are to add a Cold Air intake, and Just take care of the Car, I think it has amazing power for a Stock V6.

The 94-98 3.8Ls have little potential without major mods. A split port swap with p&p heads + lower intake, a nice cam, and a windstar upper intake would give you a nice gain but you'll basically have to disassemble the engine to do it. Turbo/SC give the best gains for your money but require a good amount of work (and require upgraded internals to run higher boost). Nitrous doesn't require as much work but you can only run it for a short time and when the bottle is empty, you're out of power until you refill it.
Basically I recommend you figure out exactly what you want to do with the car (DD, drag, autox, etc) and then we can help you figure out what would be best for your car at that point.
