What exhaust do I have?

Hi Everyone.

I've just reached my first year with my 2000 V6 mustang. I ran into an issue though. My muffler fell off as well as the exhaust pipe while i was driving. I've been trying to do some research to find out whether I should weld the muffler back on, get new parts, or switch out the exhaust system entirely.

Ive included pictures. Any information you guys can provide would be appreciated.

Thank you

Looks to be the stock Y pipe with a dual exhaust "adapter". I recommend redoing the exhaust system with a proper h pipe or divorced dual setup and mufflers of your choice.

I've heard that the H pipe is better. I'd like to install the H pipe and change up the exhaust system. You guys have any H pipe or exhaust system recommendations.

Is this a type of project I could do on my own. I'm still a beginner gear head.

If you know how to weld well, you can do it on your own. If you're good with fabrication, you could make your own h-pipe otherwise you could just buy one online. If you're not feeling up to the job, have a shop custom fabricate you an h-pipe and install it along with 2 mufflers and 2 exhaust tips of your choice. Generally it shouldn't cost more than $400 for mufflers, tips, h-pipe materials, and labor.

Also, if you have emissions testing then you'll need to keep your cats on. If not, you can run an o/r h-pipe (no cats) but if you have a shop install it you'll need to find shop willing to do it (since it's illegal, you might need to pay in cash and make them aware that you'll be paying in cash so they can keep it off the books).
