Kinda worried....
I finally am going dual exhaust (or at least I think so?). But I'm worried. The guy who is doing it (really knows his shit and has been doing it years and years), said from the y pipe on down. I told him I wanted divorced mid pipe with two flowmasters (both provided). So is he correct when he says that? Like it will definitely be dual exhaust right?

My guess is he's either going to fab up something like an h pipe adapter or he's going to do like my guy did and chop a hole in the passenger side of the y pipe and run a new tube from there to throw a muffler on. It will be dual exhaust, but it won't be divorced duals.

He told me before he was going to go form cats on out, now today on the phone he said from y pipe. I'm not sure if he messed up what he was saying but I said "so divorced mid pipe with duals" multiple times and he said we'll get you taken care of.....

it won't sound like shit but it won't be true duals. but just tell your guy to cut the exhaust from behind the cats and make it a divorced dual exhaust.

Not necessarily. My guy chopped off a piece of my y pipe and ran a pipe straight back to a 2nd muffler so it's sort of like a crazy h pipe pipe and I love how it sounds
Just talk to him again and make sure you describe exactly what you want done.

If a guy has been doing this for "40+ years" and he can't even get what you want straight, then i'd go somewhere else. You might pay more, but you know you'll be getting what you want, instead of chopping off some metal and hope that he gives you what you asked for. Sounds like that guy has breathed in too many exhaust fumes over the years or is deaf from all the exhaust that he has had to install and listen to lol.

good luck is all i can say..your exhaust man sounds confused lol.
i have built a bond with my exhaust shop because i give him so much business from both me and my family and i refer people out of my work when they ask if i know of a shop...he's competent at his job and does it well...and will do anything you ask even if he doesn't like it lol. that's the kind of shop i like...hell he asked me this morning when i got my new hangers put on if he wanted my cats cut off and some tubing welded in while im on the lift...i said no thanks for now but after i get a tuner i think im gonna take him up on that offer |

Welp I got it, two exhaust pipes and it sounds pretty damn mean. Granted the one flowmaster has been baked in for a year vs the other being brand new, but it sounds pretty damn mean in my opinion. Will it bake in further and get louder? esp since one flowmaster is brand new and the pipes are new etc

Your old muffler is broken in as it is. The new one will sound different in a few months. My Flowmasters actually got a little quieter but a little deeper once they were broken in.

True duals are in mine. Mach1 take-offs all the way to the tips from after the cats. I picked up an entire Mach1 exhaust system including the cats and this is where we finished it up:
