Wiper arm restoration, and seafoam

Thoughts and opinions on seafoam?

for wiper arm resto, i picked up satin black krylon and 180 grit and 1000 grit sandpaper, should be fine?

how should i go about doing that

been super busy lately any breaking news i've missed?

side note prefilling oil filter? thoughts?

another side note switching from 5w-30 to 5w-20?

lol....you have alot of questions

how do you want to use the seafoam? through the intake...in the crankcase...gastank?

as for wiper arms..

1. remove
2. scuff
3. paint
4. dry
5. install

oil weight...
ford calls for 5w20..it's what i use but then again i like to keep things simple

I'm sure once McQueen gets in here he'll be able to give you a great answer about painting your wiper arms

For the painting, wiper arms are easy. Take them off, scuff them with your low grit sandpaper, scuff them with your high grit sandpaper (180 might leave some grooves, the 1000 will take care of that), clean them, spray them (no need for primer on these or clear on these), let them dry, reinstall them.

For the Seafoam. I'm starting to think that it doesn't work as well as I used to think. If you're going to do it, just get the B12 or whatever the "off brand seafoam" is called. Now here's why I don't think Seafoam works as well as I used to think.

This is my upper intake, 10k miles after Seafoaming

Swipe my finger through it and I get this

Lower intake, again after 10k miles

Stuck my finger in there too

So either my engine forces a ton of oil through my PCV line and into the intakes, or Seafoaming isn't the super cleaner I believed it was.

Aww, I was planning on Seafoaming soon. Now I'm afraid of wasting money. Lol

Was gonna do 1/3 Gas
1/3 Intake, and 1/3 Oil.

"But the Oil would wait untill the next oil change so I can do it about a week before the Change." I've heard its bad to keep it in the oil?

Seafoam is usually about $10 for a can. There's an off brand called B12 or something like that and it's only $3-4 for a can the same size. 1/3 gas, 1/3 oil, 1/3 intake is what we normally do. The gas is optional but it is good for the fuel system so I recommend it (Seafoam was originally developed as a fuel system cleaner). And I wouldn't leave the Seafoam in the oil for more than a few days. It is some pretty potent stuff and will eventually start eating through gaskets and seals. I would put it in 2 or 3 days max before you change the oil. I know people have left it in longer but the longer it's in there the more you risk it going from cleaning to damaging.

Well McQueen; That doesn't sound gewd.

How exactly do I put it into my intake?

Squirt it into the Throttle body while the engines runnin?

Or is their a smarter way?

Pull the PCV line off the the driver side valve cover while the engine is running, have 1/3 of the can of Seafoam in a cup, and put the PCV line right down next to the Seafoam. Don't dunk it in or the engine will stall, just let it slowly suck it in (the engine creates a vacuum after the throttle body and it should be strong enough to suck the liquid in if the PCV line is within a few millimeters of the Seafoam). Some people will tell you to use the brake booster line but don't listen to that, it only feeds a few of the intake runners and you want it to get to all of the runners.

If I recall correctly our drivers side valve cover has a problem with allowing oil through the PCV valve into our intake. This was fixed with a different valve cover in 01+ or you can modify the inside of the cover itself.

Here's some more info on it if you're interested. My upper intake looked pretty much the same when I last had it off.

That is some very useful info, repped. I'm going to have to get an 01+ valve cover for the driver side when I put my engine back together or drop in a new engine.

Yup sounds about right, pretty much what I did. Smoke Show

Yeah painting your wiper arms should not be too hard to make look good, just even coats.

Oh and hey Drew, haven't seen you on in a while

All of that is correct. If you want more detailed info about rattle can painting, there's a link in my sig to a write-up I did.

maybe i over do it, but i do a whole bottle of seafom through the intake, then a half in the oil and gas tank. i let it sit over night usually on a weekend and go flog the shit out of it the next day then change the oil. Its held up for the 40000 miles ive put on it doing that and it runs great.
