6 to 8 swap?!
Okay so, getting ready to do the 6 to 8 swap. Anyone know of any threads? I tried to search but I'm getting everything that has "swap" in it. Have donor car and a pretty mechanically inclined hubby but just want to avoid speed bumps that others have already ran into.

honestly I didnt know you could do this. I wonder what is more cost effective....swap or just buy a new car?

Sentimental value comes into play when someone does an engine swap.

I would have to agree with this statement.
![]() Seeing as you have a donor car I can't imagine it would be too difficult. You could just raise the nose, unbolt the whole engine/trans/k-frame as an assembly, roll it out and roll it into the new one. Then roll out the rear axle, bolt it in, voila. [Horribly oversimplified version] I'm sure you'll have to contend with things like the ECM, disabling PATS, possible cooling package swap, having to swap the brake setup, interior pieces...blah blah blah. Doesn't sound too fun.

I'd be interested to see how the economics turn out for this swap. Depending on the value of the V6 and the GT you might lose out. I'm fairly confident I'll come up on the plus side of things with my swap. ...and is it sad I think that doing a termi swap is easier than doing a 6 to 8 swap?

As far as the most cost effective way, 9 out of 10 times it is cheaper to sell your car and buy a new one. However, as mentioned, sentimental value does come into play and may make the swap worthwhile (though still not cost effective).

Lol you're in the 10%. We don't have a whole lot of members that could actually swap an engine/tranny themselves (or have the balls to attempt it) which is why it's so expensive for most people. But if you've got the tools, knowledge, and can find a donor car for a great price then an engine swap is the way to go

I was thinking about doing this when my engine died. I ended up going with a split port swap out of a 99 instead. I don't regret it at all. As a matter of fact, I replaced almost every part possible in my swap and my car drives like brand new. New cai, clutch, alternator, hoses and clamps, etc.. If I had done a v8 swap, I probably would have been in about the same amount of money to be completely honest. I just wouldn't have had as many new parts. However, I don't regret only doing a SP swap. I love my Mustang, so as long as she's alive and running, I'm happy!

Wasn't there a member on here that was swapping in a V10? I think his thread went dead though.
Not to mention Ford actually built one as a test car. ...and it still has more room under the hood than an F250 Powerstroke.

Ford also already beat you to that one as well. Remember the GT-90? They basically lopped off 2 cylinders from the 4.6, and welded two together. Then put twin turbos on it.
I still want one.
