What Manual Transmission is best for power?
I am wondering what transmission people use when they go FI, whether it be via turbo or SC. I'm going to replace my driveshaft soon to try and get rid of some vibration. I'm thinking that if I may have to swap out my transmission for something stronger in the future, maybe I should look into it now before I spend money. Do you guys suggest the t5 our cars came with or is there a better option that will mate? Or maybe just re-building the stock transmission? I haven't seen much info on the subject..

T56, though I've never seen one adapted to a 3.8L.
I think if you want to stay sticky, you'll have to go with a built T5, as I don't know of any other options.

That's what I thought, but wanted to make sure. It doesn't look like I'll have any problems then!
I kind of wish a T-56 would mate up, though That'd be pretty cool. Lol

ive heard you need to buy the bellhousing made to mate the t56 to a 5.0 and it should work.

^ Really? I'm going to have to look into that a bit more. It would definitely be a bit stronger than the t5, I would think.. Do you have any info on it? Google might be my friend here. lol
I was either going to replace my ds with an aluminum one from AM or an oem. I might still do so. |

And there are plenty of T56 swaps for fox bodies. Trust me, when I was looking for a Cobra swap it was infuriating to see how many swaps there were for fox bodies, but none for new edges. Then the question would be shifter location. I don't know if the RFOB (Rear Face of Block) plane is the same for the V6 and V8. I know for trucks with multiple engine platforms it's common OEM practice to use the same RFOB plane for ease of integration. Not sure if Ford followed suit. If not, what's a hole in your console?

Not necessarily, the T5 is in incredibly common transmission, and was used behind the 2.3L as well as in the Camaro, S10, 240SX, hardbody pickup, and 300ZX as well. Doesn't mean that all versions share mating surfaces.

But it certainly would be an odd move on Ford's part to use different bolt patterns for different engines but the same transmission. Of course I'm thinking from an engine manufacturer's standpoint. We use the same bolt pattern (though it's a specific flywheel housing option) across similar engine families to mate to the same transmission. (ie ISL-9 and ISX-11.9 using the Allison 3000HS) Can't say it's common practice though.

It's just something I'd have to look into. Also, I DO NOT have a new edge. My Mustang is a '96. Though I think everything is aligned the same in that direction. I think the New Edges are just a bit wider on the body.
What about the advantages of the t-56? It could definitely hold more power. I'm also assuming it would get better gas mileage (Depending on how hard you drive ) Also, I think our t5's are 28 spline as opposed to the t56 being 31. It was too late to do research last night, but I'm going to look into it now that I have a few extra hours. I'll keep you guys posted on what I find!

I wouldn't cite better fuel economy. It's similar to the T3650, except that it's 5th gear splits the huge gap between the T3650's 4th and 5th gear. Otherwise 1-4 match up pretty closely, and 5 and 6 are similar. Possibly if you do a lot of driving in the ~40-50mph range you could save some fuel economy, but it would be very dependant on duty cycle.

Honestly, the more I look into it, the more I think I'd rather just stick with the t-5. There's much more out there for beefing up a t-5 and having no problem putting it in our cars. I can't find a single "fact" about using a t-56. Overall, I think this was just something that crossed my mind and I'm chalking it up as a no-go. I appreciate the help, though. (I think I'm going to keep searching just so I have more info on the subject for the future..)

World Class T5; had a bud with a nice built 5.0 using a WC and it never had issues.
