"final" cam question

Ok guys so this week I will be getting the final mech part for my cam poject
I already have the cam
(218/226. .5/.5. Lsa 112)
And alrdy have the springs (ls1s)
Both from greenmustang00

Now I went on comp cams webssite and at the bottom they have links to "suggested" products that go with my cam and I have a few questions bout them

They have links to the rods that correspond to the cam
Retainers
Lifters
Springs

Question bout there rods
Are there rod the same as stock oem as in lenght or r these taller and if so for any stupid reason I have to reuse the stock rods cuz the magnum rods ...say bend will it work and I'm assuming the ones they suggest r better quallity and r absolutly needed?

Should I get a new timing chain? Or. Belt I never knew whick one we had never looked it up...and anything else that is RECOMENDED to replace but isn't needed??

if you look at the link at the bottom of the page it says "recommended componets"

44-704-9 - Xtreme Energy? Hydraulic Roller Tappet Camshafts

i was gunna get the rods, lifters, and retainers

my question is...for some un-godly reason i have to re use the stock one can i or are the ones they suggest longer or same lenght or wat??

my dad says that if it all going to be apart you mmiles well replace it all while your in there...which i wanna do but for back up knowledge can i re use stock rod and i dont need new lifters...

ect ect...anything else i should know
thanks

It sounds badass, until you touch the gas.
(this is with open headers)

did the guy who sold you the cam ever use it? if so do you have sound clips from his car?

thats open long tubes, and it sounds amazing at idle, but shit with gas ...
probably be a shit tone of drone in the car too

I suggest a full exhaust on a decent muffler, unless you go prochamber. Then any muffler you want should sound pretty good.

If you like the open long tube sound you can get cut outs, look them up electric ones would be "smart"

As far as cam, mine was a regrind, so the PR (push rod) issue is different for me as well. But if they say you need them for the cam then get them. PR length is a MAJOR deal with this, to long of PR length might keep a valves open, that leads to more issues
To short means things aren't opening as they should, and that causes plenty of problems, PRs have to be a perfect length. A PR length checker tool lets you measure the correct size out.

If they say thats the correct PR length, then get them, or shop around for that length.
The springs/retainers are a pair. They recommend those springs w/ the retainers, every one says GT retainers w/ LS6 Yellow springs. Other wise you want the springs and retainers that they recommend (thats what im running btw)

Being a regrind, It was a shot in the dark as to what PR's I needed. The stock PRs were fine on the exhaust ports, but not the intakes, I had to buy 6 new/longer PRs.

130k miles on the lifters maybe alot of miles man ... thats alot of miles on alot of parts depending on how it was taken care of its WHOLE life.

Lifters maybe soggy by now and new firm ones are needed. You'll find out when you pull them out. Chances are they are "ok" for stock, but might not be for the new valve train set up.

You also have issues of: valve seals, cam bearings, internal bearings, main seals, ect ect that might need to be checked. Their will be ALOT of carbon build up you wanna clean out the best you can, deleting the EGR would be a good idea too.

BTW, if you have cats on your car, that cam is NOT going to be as loud AT ALL. Trust me, i discovered this in the begining stages of this project of mine.

We have a timing chain, and no it wouldn't hurt to replace that either, might have some where/slack in it by now.

Things can get expensive in a hurry when you break your engine down ... just saying, be ready for it. read up on the install, and know what your doing when you get in there. save the heart ache I went through. TAKE ALOT OF PICTURES OF TAKING IT APART SO YOU KNOW EXACTLY HOW IT GOES BACK TOGETHER. !

you need your exhaust to breath just as much as you need the intake to breath.

And I made 10 less HP then him:
He had a pretty hot tune. Mines easy going.
He had a 5 speed
I have an auto

Auto loses alot more power to the wheels then a manual.
