Aftermarket Performance Item questions

Hi, I own a 2006 Mustang v6. I wanted to eventually add on the following:

Dual Exhaust or Dual Tips
Cold Air Intake or Dual Air Intake
Tuner

Now I don't know too much about cars, but I was wondering what would be the best order to install these items. Also I was wondering what is better dual exhaust or dual tips. What's the difference? I was wondering what is better a CAI or Dual AIr Intake? and should I get a tuned CAI? If so please link me. I heard JLT's are good. Also gas is very expensive, I was wondering if it'd hurt if i got anything tuned to 87 octane. Thanks in advance! Also if you could include brands that'd be very helpful.

1. You can get a CAI and tuner from AmericanMuscle.com. They offer free basic tunes for life with their tuners. And since you have an S197, they sell combo kits (tuner + CAI) for your model.

2. For the exhaust, buy the mufflers of your choice (and possibly tips as well) and take them to an exhaust shop. I recommend Flowmaster mufflers, their American Thunder mufflers sound great on S197s. Have them fab up a midpipe you like (x pipe, h pipe, divorced duals) and install the whole setup. Do dual mufflers. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "dual tips" but from what I can picture in my head, you'd be VERY disappointed with the sound results.

3. I have no idea what you mean by "dual air intake." I've never seen such a setup on our cars. Just go with a CAI. You really can't go wrong with an CAI from AmericanMuscle. They'll all basically do the same thing, some just require a tune (it should be noted on their respective pages on AmericanMuscle.com).

4. When you order tunes from AM, you'll have the option to choose what type of fuel you want to have that tune written for (87, 89, 91, 93) and you'll be able to choose something like "economy," "street," and "race." Economy is what you'll want if you're worried about gas mileage. You won't get the same power as you would out of a street or race tune, but you'll get better mpg.

Ok first off welcome to the site.

As for your exhaust question go duals, not dual tips. Tips are just for aesthetic purposes only, Dual Exhaust is what will give you your sound/performance. And since you have a V6 i'd go with an H-pipe cause and X-pipe is more raspy but yields better performance.

For the CAI question, you can only go single intake since our cars only have 1 throtte body on them...that sums that up lol. Most brands people go for are BBK or K&N. There's also a $60 kit on AM that is essentially the same thing.

Tuner's are awesome, but they yield the best performance from automatics by changing shift points giving you harder faster shifts. our cars run 87 octane already so i'm not too sure what you mean by getting it tuned to 87 octane If you get a tuner you can get your octane tuned different ways. Most people run a 87 Street Tune, 91 Performance tune and a 91 or 93 Race Tune.

Here is the site that favors our mustangs alot!

I've gotten used to checking peoples' vehicles before I post since the 05-09 section doesn't get much attention

well, Mcqueen did a hell of a job summin it up. From being in your shoes at one point, I know where you stand. I would find a muffler shop or mustang/performance garage and have them take care of the exhaust (im sure they'll put the intake in for you if you can't yourself). I would get an "Offroad H-Pipe" for you "midpipe". From personal experience I find this the best sounding on our v6's. Now "Offroad" means that the midpipe doesn't come with "cats" or "catalic converters". In most states, O/R exhaust are "illegal" due to emmisions, but results in better performance from your exhaust (louder/more HP). Just about any garage mechanic will pass your car with an O/R exhaust.
Now the tuner, Americanmuscle.com, has a bunch to choose from. You could ask us for advice, or just call AM and they can help find the right one for you.
