my rear makes a small clunk sometimes when I put it in gear such as drive. If I hold the brake down fully pressed , I usually dont get the sound,

Don't go throwing money at the problem until you know what the problem is. Put the rear of your car up on jack stands and spin the wheels then try to pinpoint exactly where the noise is coming from.

For what it would cost to fix, I would look into getting a used 8.8 rear. Try to stick with a 99-04, earlier years weren't quite as wide. I know the 94-98s are roughly an inch narrower than the 99-04s, so your wheels would both sit 1/2" more into the wheel wells..

I would go with the 8.8. They'll both probably end up costing nearly the same and the 8.8 is stronger plus it will have a tlok and it usually isn't too hard to find one with upgraded gears. This is something you could do yourself with some help. It should bolt right up and be a pretty straight forward swap.

Check your local Craigslist and junk yards. Easiest places to find one since shipping on such a large item would be very expensive.

You know, I always hear this and wonder about putting a 99-04 into an sn-95.. Would it bolt up the same? Would be kind of kool to have the wider stance in the back. Lol

Yeah, it would bolt up the same. I do know that the 8.8 out of one body style requires the drilling of 2 holes to match up to another body style but I can't remember which. Not that drilling 2 holes is anywhere near difficult
