I Cannot chase down this problem! plz advise!

Hello to all Members!

My Name is Joe, My pony's name is Jobra, he a 98 3,8l V6, true strait duels to flow-masters NO cat, MIL eliminators, Stock Engine and Tranny, adding deferential soon for positive track! He have a cold here are the symptoms;

1. Take of acceleration boggs down till about 3k RPM then it WAKES up and takes off...
2. Pulsating idle very hard with A/C on

What ive done so far to correct this (info from moddedmustangs.com!!!);

1. New fuel filter
2. new plugs and wires
3 new coil pack OEM
3 new egr valve
4 cleaned MAF
5 Cleaned throttle thing on top of intake (sry little mind boggled)
6 SEA-FOAM tank, crankcase, and vac lines.

Here is a video of what its doing!!

The problem Fix is to Disconnect battery to reset ECU, then Jobra runs strong and is a completely different transformer!

BUT what else can i do to fix problem MYSELF? (also got a date with auto shop Monday to hook it up to CPU)

PLEASE ADVISE MODDMUSTANGS MEMBERS!

Are you talking about the IAC? I'm not totally familiar with SN95 upper intakes, but that's the only thing I can imagine you're talking about. If so, I would try cleaning the throttle body and checking for vacuum leaks (especially around gaskets, those get brittle after 13 years). I would put my money on a vacuum leak.

Yes IAC thank you, Cleaned throttal body with cleaner without squirting it IN the body (finger cleaned it) the vacs comming from EGR valve area dont leak when i blow through them.

If it could be a vac leak why do you think i can reset ECU and it work great for a day or so?

Stupid question, but have you checked your air filter? Lol

Sounds like you're having an air or fuel problem somewhere.. Or maybe one of your fuel injectors is bad/clogged?

...air filter is ok. im about to point the finger there (injectors). I thought it was a fuel/air ratio problem too?! but again why would it go back to running great after battery disconnect? Ive checked almost all things to test?! lol I guess i need to learn about Fuel Injectors LOL

Any one Else?!

Thanks guys so far so good!

My car sounded like that when the timing was way off. Drove like a slug until you were high up in the RPMs

That is on my old 88 5.0 though. Not sure how you new and improved guys do that w/o a distributor

Q: can timing bog down engine when in R or D and heavier with A/C on?

*thanks, Joe

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but the idle hops when the ac is on, and it drives like crap with the ac on? I'd say its the ac. Maybe the clutches in the ac unit are grabbing or worn out? Try running a short belt to bypass the ac, and see if it runs any better. That would isolate the prob to the ac. That's the only thing i can think of.

another guy said that too but then he said that i f it was that then disconnecting battery and letting ECU reset would not make it work again.

It does this not all the time, the A/C load was just to heavy down engine so you could hear how it sounded. but i WILL try that!

Thanks, Joe

That actually makes more sense seeing as how it runs fine for a bit after a battery disconnect.... & I'll tell you from experience that a bad CPS will not always throw a code. It didn't for me

the easiest way to check for a vaccum leak is to spray some brake-kleen around the engine and intake area, and see if the idles changes. if it does you have found the leak. but given it changes with ecu reset, i would say just take to a dealer and have them diagnose it. hell, i didnt put my wire on the plug for cylinder 3 all the way and i never got a cel, but it ran like dick till i put it back on. if the sensors are still sensing properly, you wont gt a cel.
