Good price for a used V6?
I've been looking at cars, and I'd like to get a '94-'04 Mustang, but I don't really know what I should be paying, with condition and miles and all. Anyone got any advice?
Definitely going for a 5 speed manual, btw. |

It basically all depends on your location, and the condition of the car. I would go to Autotrader.com or craigslist and see what people are asking for their cars. Once you find one that you like, then go to KBB and see if it's worth what they are asking for.
Right now the used car scene is very high priced, it's a good time to sell but not a good time to buy.

don't waste your time with a 94-98 model...if you're set on a v6 and can only afford so much look for a 99-04....range from 2-7k depending on condition, year, mileage...so on and so forth...
honestly though for the same price range you can find a decent GT which will get around the same MPG and the insurance isn't much different. just an idea to look into. |

it all depends I saw a 99-04(not 100% sure of the year) Roush V6 test vehicle, that was featured in a Roush calender, autographed by Jack Roush, sell for 6 grand in Florida the other day, I know where I can go buy one right now with an auto trans and 3.73 gears for 1200 cash all it needs is a paint job it, but KBB would give you a guess to what your wanting

Definitely what 6ER said, GT's and V6's basically are in the same ball park for the price.

yeah I'd go with what 6er said look at a GT unless you get lucky and find a super rare, supercharged Roush you have more options with a GT

i paid 2 for mine
it came with no brakes, cracked exhast manifold, alteeza taillights, 2 cracked cobra wheels, bad tires, and cigarrette burns allover the interior. on the other side of things my buddy paid 4k for one and its near mint so its like the old "you get what you pay for" saying. if you dont mind doing some work then try and find one for cheap like 2-3k the good thing about mine is the paint looks real good even though its a cheap paint job. but if i were to do it again i would set my price for like 4k and for a gt 6k def go 5 speed btw but if a great deal comes up then auto lol

As it's been said, the prices are going to vary by mileage, condition, location, etc. One tip I will give you, don't be sucker and pay more for a car with mods. Mods do not add to the value of a vehicle and a good amount of modded vehicles are driven hard. The only way I would pay more for a vehicle with mods would be if it was a project car (not running) that someone had run out of money or whatever and has to sell it (because they wouldn't get the full value out of the mods, they haven't been used, and it would save me money in the long run).
That said, I paid $2400 for my car. It's a 2000 V6, 5speed, 98k miles, had a damaged front bumper, dent in the passenger rear quarter panel, paint damage on a few panels, needed tires, and some other minor things. And that was in Iowa in the fall (sports car prices tend to drop when winter is coming around and rise in the spring).

Not surprised about the seasonal thing, so I guess that's in my favor. Looking to buy in a little over a month now. Thanks for the responses, guys. |

i doubt even as a teen a GT would rape you on insurance..hell look for an sn95 and that will be in the same insurance range as a 99-04 v6...
my GT as of now runs me $15 more a month then my v6 |

From my experience, GT insurance is higher (I'm 20 with no wrecks if that helps), and GTs generally cost a few grand more atleast in my area.
I got my car for $6500 with 24,500 miles on it. A GT for around $7K in this area is a 100,000+ mile car. Which I don't know how I would feel about that. |

I could probably score a decent V8 if I keep an eye out and make a good bargain.
I'm in Kansas City and I estimate my insurance would be about 250 a month with a sixer. |
