Cutting steeda springs.

Want to go lower and dont want to buy new springs. Would it be bad to cut steeda competition springs? I need half an inch.

If they are linear springs, you can cut them. I don't recommend cutting springs ever though personally, but I won't go into that whole debate again.

Good idea....

@op...on stock springs I've found a coil off is an inch drop on average. Hope that helps even though yours are steeda

the problem.....steeda springs are very stiff so I dont know how much to cut for that little drop. No they aren't linear.

You can cut progressive springs, too. The only difference is that when you cut linear springs, you know that the resulting spring rate is stiffer, which is necessary when you're decreasing the ride height.

OP - have you already removed your spring isolators? You can find 1/4"-1/2" more drop just by pulling those, just make sure to wrap your spring ends in electrical tape if you go that route. Also, why do you say you "need" another 1/2 of drop?

Yes they are removed. I just need another 1/2 inch. I got the type of spring wrong they are linear sorry.

The spring rate is 850lbs.

How are you determining that they didn't? If you cut linear springs, you may not have cut enough to feel the added stiffness in your seat, but the stiffness increased; it's simple physics. Also, you wouldn't have changed the spring rate if you only cut dead coils; as they don't flex, they don't contribute to the spring rate.

A metal of a certain diameter allows a certain amount of deflection with a certain length. If there's less length, there's less metal to deflect, and thus less deflection.

For a simple experiment, try bending a pencil, and see how much you can flex it. Now cut that pencil in half, and see how much you can flex the shorter piece.

repped for the physics lesson
