Any advice on what I should do?

I bought a Diablo Predator tuner + Usb Kit for $100 from a CL ad..

I was told that the tuner was unlocked..But when i tried to use it on my car it said "Vehicle not lisenced for use with this tuner".

After i learned that its locked I called the guy up and he said that he thought it was unlocked....

I asked him if i can plug it back into his car and restore the stock tune.. He said no because his car has been dynoed and it would lose the dyno if he does that.

He then told me he called American Muscle and they told him they can remove the lock without him losing the Dyno tune....

Since its the weekend i haven't called AM yet but I was wondering if this can be possible because he has not responded to my calls today..

I was an idiot because when i first tested the tuner at his house i clicked load performance tune and it was giving me directions with the ignition so I thought it was unlocked and took it home to find out its not....

I don't believe AM will unlock the tuner (they may not have the ability). You'll probably have to contact DiabloSport and they should be able to do it. But I would be willing to bet they're like SCT and will charge a hefty fee to do it. SCT charges $150 to unlock a tuner.

Lol used tuners aren't a bad thing. Sometimes you just end up buying from someone who doesn't know what they're talking about. I'm probably going to end up putting my tuner back up for sale here soon, but I'm not dumb enough to leave my car tuned and say the tuner is unlocked. Gotta return the car to stock to unlock a tuner.

I think they run around the same price as SCT tuners, so probably ~$380 new. And yeah, he'll have to get new tunes. I would NEVER upload someone else's tune onto my car.

Update:

I found a UNLOCKED SCT tuner on CL for only $100...

This time i asked him to send me a pic of the device status before I go there and he sent me this

Looks good hopefully it will make up for my $100 loss on this diablo

My guess would be it means the guy bought the tuner without any tunes preloaded. And you won't need to pay $150 to buy tunes if you don't need 3 different tunes. I know most people buy their tuners and assume they're going to use an economy tune, a street tune, and a race tune (for track days) but if your car is your DD then you'll probably end up liking how the race tune makes your car feel and run that all the time. That's what I did; got 3 tunes right away and only ever ran 1 but I was glad to have an 87 oct tune for those times when I couldn't find a gas station with 93 oct fuel.

Bought a used tuner for $165 I think it was. Got an 87 tune and 93 tune for $50.
So I saved like $170.

Used tuners aren't always a bad thing.
