How much will a tune change on a v6?
I ordered the bama tunes today and got them in less than 3 hours...
I listed stock injectors and CAI and dual exhaust... Honestly i feel like my car is performing no different at all.....I tried both the 87 street tune and the 91 performance..... I felt no different.... So then i decided to try a 0-60 with my friend timing. I Shifted right when i hit the red line and I got 0-60 at 10 second on the 91 octana performance tune.... So i was wondering if theres supposed to be a big noticeable difference. Also i have a Air to fuel ratio, and in idle is it supposed to be scrolling from ideal to rich? Because my air to fuel in idle goes to rich then back to lean..doesnt stay in the middle... I also heard when im coasting its supposed to be at ideal..Mine isnt like that even with the tune....! So i dont think my mileage will improve...

if your going to tune your car, bring it to a verible reputable dyno/tune garage... Otherwise dont let anyone else touch your cars computer... you should notice a very slight difference, but most of the change will revolve around how the engine runs, you will not really gain any more speed, or performance than you already had.

More noticeable for an automatic. I got one since I have gears and O/R exhaust. Honestly, I didnt feel anything special but the car didnt feel like it was going to break on the interstate anymore (I had the gears before the tuner).

my car gets to 60 faster than 10 seconds (at least it seems like it). i would also get a tune for 24# injectors because it still seems like your injectors are dumping too much fuel in.

Gains are really minimal with so few mods. Even with increase timing, our engines don't have the best compression to take advantage of it like the S197s do (same deal with the CAI).

You guys are crazy, the difference in mine was COMPLETELY NOTICEABLE
![]() Lol, I'm joking.. It's only because my stock computer tune uses 14lb injectors & a completely different top end ![]() But honestly, I don't think it would make that much of a difference with not many mods.. But I do have one question! When using your 91 tune, did you have 91 octane gas? If not, that would cause your car to run like you're describing. Use at least 91 octane with the 91 tune! If you're filling and your tank still has some 87 or 89 gas in it.. Use 93 to even it out a bit. Lol, higher octane won't hurt, but a lower octane on a higher octane tune could cause some damage

I don't think I really noticed a whole lot from my tune aside from the shift points and firmness (automatic - really makes the car shift much better). Throttle response seemed to be a bit better.
But as far as being faster I wouldn't really say much. And I have a windstar swap and longtubes with an o/r h. This is running a 93 tune also. I would say my car ran alittle better in general after the tune though. |

The canned tunes you get on line are not going to make a big difference. I found the SCT tune included with my 9600 Livewire added some power, maybe 10hp compared to stock at best. The Bama tunes I tried made similar power but with some hesitation and a bigger hit to gas mileage.
The biggest gains will come from tuning the car on a dyno. The technician looks at the actual air fuel ratio while the engine is run under load. Torque is measured and horsepower calculated along the way. Through testing, the best AFR for that car can be found based on measured torque. The MAF transfer table and fuel table can be adjusted to keep the car at target AFR throughout the rpm range. That is just skimming the surface on what can be done by a professional tuner on a dyno. Horsepower gains from a professional tune will be quite noticeable. It is really the best way to get a car to run to its full potential. Modding a car and not having it tuned the right way would be a waste.

The car's narrowband 02 sensors have a signal that oscillates. This is normal if you are not using a wideband kit that came with a wideband sensor. You'd have to add a bung in your exhaust ahead of the cats to install the sensor. Most people don't ask for bung installation, so it would be easy to remember if you have the wide or narrow type sensor driving your gauge.
