Would i be fine with a 7.5 differential
Only looking to make 250-260 hp with future turbo. Would a 7.5 differential be strong enough for this power or would it be best to go with 8.8 right off the bat.

I blew my 7.5 w/ stock power
some have taken the 7.5 to 300-400 hp or more. I mean it would be stupid to keep it stock with that power, you'd want to put a posi in it and some gears ... But other then that it would really depend on how you drive it. So on that note, yes It *could* be fine for that much power And btw, I cant remember, are you a auto or manual ? |

Usually you can find an 8.8 for 150 bucks on craigslist.. then throw gears in it.

You dont have to swap the 7.5 right off the bat before you start to mod, I didnt. I run the stock unit for a good 4 months before I put the detroit locker in it.
Put the power mods on it first and go from there.

Will I need anything besides the 8.8 and gears to have it put on?

I did not see two things mentioned here:
1. 8.8 weighs about 70lbs more 2. 7.5 and 8.8 differ only in the pumpkin, axles and shafts are identical Either axle has its advantages. The 7.5 will take a lot of power if you don't drive like Ace Ventura, Pet Detective. An 8.8 can take more power but adds weight. The choice is yours . . .

To use that 8.8 TLok you will need to get an 8.8 axle assembly. What you saw on ebay is the correct part for Mustangs that came with 8.8 rear ends.
I'm not sure why you'd pick the 8.8 if you are not drag racing. Its main advantage is being able to launch more brutally without breaking. In street use, the extra weight just requires more gas to move and makes it harder for the suspension to keep the rear tires on the ground. Google "unsprung weight" to learn more about how it affects a car's handling.

Neither one is correct. The second is just the tlok & I think the first is, too..
Your best bet is either junkyards or craigslist. A rear end is not something you want to order as shipping will have your wallet's ribs touching it's spine. Lol

If you're not drag racing, that's more reason to stick with the 7.5, not to go 8.8.

^ I was thinking the same thing. I think it's more in the 30-50 range.. From what I've heard, anyway..
