pushrod length checking
When I set the checker to the length they machine shop said it would be and tighten the rocker down, the valve compresses a little. Is this suppose to happen? I can put the stock PR in there with the rocker tight and I can wiggle just a hair, so I know its too short.
So how do I check the length properly?

No shit. When is it the right length. Do you put preload on it?

Use a pushrod length checker to find the length for zero lash, then add .020-.060". That length will provide proper lifter preload.

As long as the lifters are in good condition, it doesn't matter if they are new or used. The spring inside the lifter will hold the plunger at the top of the bore so that you can find zero lash.

Step 1: Take a Sharpie and make the top of the valve black
Step 2: Adjust the PR checker to stock height Step 3: Check valve lash with PR checker at stock height Step 4: Turn the PR checker making it longer until you get zero lash Step 5: turn over the motor 2 times with the pr checker in place and the rocker torqued down Step 6: Take off the rocker and see where it made a mark on the valve stem, you want to make it as close to the center of the valve, if its is not in the center adjust the PR checkers height up or down as needed. That is how i did it more or less i hope it helps a little bit Oh and do it on cylinder 1 starting when it is at TDC This was my first time doing anything with the motor and it took a good 2 hours doing this to make sure i got it exactly right. |

Well my concern is that I set the checker to stock, tighten the rocker. And I only get MAYBE 1/4 a turn..

Interesting info. Will be doing my cam soon, and this is a question I had. I need to find a local place to get pushrods in stock so I am not down a week waiting on them to come in.
