when your engine is cold enough for you to touch it with your hand... just put your thumb over the end of the hose and go to town

after that get some tire polish or something and go at the plastice and shit... then after that if your dressing it up get some colourful tape and re wrap the wires w00t!

As far as I know- with the water, avoid the air filterand avoid the battery.

With any polishing compound, dont put it on any belts.

I get my engine warm ( NOT hot) this just helps the cleaning agent work a bit easier. I spray simple green all over everthing and let it sit for a minute or two. Then just hose it off real good.

I got some engine degreaser from Meguires I think, and you can spray it on every part of the engine, and it works.

do not and i repeat do not spray purple power on your engine or anything on your car for that matter. especially not the alternator, it will make everything thing look FUBAR, nah not that bad but it does look like crap and i hear it will kill an alternator in the blink of an eye, WD-40 works well to clean the black plastic on your car and underneath your hood.

simple green has dilution rates on the back of the bottle for cleaning engines. works good and doesnt hurt anything. Its not harsh or abrasive and it never made my engine look like shit... not that I ever cared how it looks anyway. But a clean engine is more efficient so thats why I keep mine clean.

i just wanna point out the fact that it rains and if cars were made to go in the rain then im sure you can just hose down the engine ya know? nothing can be hurt with water... as long as you give it a few seconds to dry

kinda like wet battery in a television remote... doesn't work

buy some engine cleaning product I use Gunk Engine Cleaner and its great. With degreaser u got to follow their instruction and DO NOT SPRAY IT ON ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS THAT WILL CARRY CURRENT (duh) if u spray degreaser on any electrical component u can get a flame cause some of them can have petroleoum jelly as the one I use but if u do it rigth your engine will be spotless and will look great but be very careful cause the uncle from my friend used it on his bmw and he accidently poured it in a open wire when he started the thing it got a flame and then it expanded on all the bay but thanx lord he had a fire xtinguisher and turn off the fire but the engine got fucked up....
