auto trans help

Started acting up the other day. When i get on it, it's downshifting but its hesitant to like grab and take off. i took a vid the other night when it started doing it(i kept going because the vid wasnt really intended to show what happens) but you can see the rpms stick at like 5100 before they actually start rising again. also, when normal driving it shifts from 3-4 but its not engaging right away and when it does engage and lockup, it kinda makes a clunk/vibration. weird thing is, 3-4 problem doesnt happen everytime. im at a lost. had the trans rebuilt around 3 years ago. hopefully someone knows something. heres the vid.

also, you auto guys, what kind of fluid are you running?

well drained about a quart to 1.5 qts. and the fluid is dark. debating whether to get the trans flushed or just drain it and fill it up, along with a new filter.

i would just drain it, refill it with fluid, new filter and see if the problem persists. also, drop the pan and see if there is any metal in the bottom of it.

car has 48k miles on it right now. trans got rebuilt either 3 or 4 years ago. it had either 24k or 28k (pretty sure it was at 28k miles) then and got all new fluid. last year i put in a stall converter with 42k miles and filled the trans up along with a new filter. so it was completely changed 20k miles ago and a good bit changed 6k miles ago.

my thing with that is, what about the fluid in the torque converter that is burnt, it wont drain out.

i guess you could pull the trans, but some torque converters have a drain plug, does yours?

well, you could refill it, run it, drain it, then refill it again. should only take like a day to drop it, and change the fluid in the converter. but while it is out, i would install a trans cooler to help the fluid from getting too hot.

I didn't read the entire thread, to lazy. There I was honest.

I rebuilt my 4r70w using this TCCoA Tech Articles list and guide. I rebuilt all my clutch packs to handle 400hp+ even though my goals are only 350. Also the guides in that link will show you how to do the J-mod and if you get a tune for the 4r70w and have the J-mod its like wow. Night and day. I can chirp the tires throwing it into 3rd. and not a short little bird chirp I mean a street machine GT tire spin. If you still have questions or anything after reading that guide feel free to message me.
