Help me make a to do list for my stock 96
Howdy, this is my first post and thread so let me give a brief introduction about myself. I work full time in a steak house, full time college student and a computer nerd to keep it short at sweet. I can probably save $150 to $250 a month to work on my car.
About my car: My dad bought this car for $200 from an old friend of his that is a refinery big wig. The car was originally his son's high school graduation present, used to drive to and from college in Houston (1 1/2 hour drive) and was abandoned when he got a fancy European sports car for his college graduation gift. Sold it to my dad as a junk/part out car since he hadn't used it in X amount of years and was getting complaints from his neighbors about it making the neighborhood look trashy with a parked car in the side of the road for X amount of years. The only problem with it was the battery terminals were rusty as hell, so we scraped almost all of it off and we got some power to the clock on the dash. We grabbed a good used battery from the garage, put a gallon in the gas tank and she ran. The present: Skip forward 4 years and after some I told you so's, my dad finally accepts the fact that my worries were for a damn good reason. I just replaced a cracked radiator 3 weeks ago, faulty thermostat a week ago, replaced a jerry rigged passenger side mirror with replacement power side mirror a year and a half ago. My list: I am going to get rid of that god awful loud squeak that makes explosions sound like burps this weekend, I ordered 2 Moog replacement Lower Ball Joints. Stolen center cap, should come in the mail by the end of the week. Eventually replace my ruined rear window. It has most of my last name ETCHED onto the glass itself. (thanks dad) Replace the right side tail light enclosure. The middle one is busted. Fix my odometer. Its been stuck at 112,875 since we got it. Bondo/ sand/ buff/pop all the little barely noticeable dents, scratches and exposed metal. Somehow clean out my yellowed headlight enlosure or replace it. Get new HID's, the ones I have look horrible. One side is brighter than the other. (thanks dad) Get rid of all of the peeling/partially scraped off self applied tint. (thanks DIY previous youngster owner) Figure out how to get the bumper on the driver's side back in alignment with the body and form. Paint job when I'm done with the body work. The same shade of green I have, its pure sex in my opinion. Somehow improve gas mileage. Eventually I want to put those wanna be ricers to shame. List....
Swap in v8 j/k lol make it run good then fix the outside. Did that with mine and i gave it to my dad, now we are getting it painted to look decent.

I actually always wanted to put a v8 in it, but it will murder my gas mileage no? Anyone else have their odometer crap out on them? Mine hasn't worked since I've had it, its been 4 years.

my speedometer works, its just my odometer that trip gauge that doesn't work. I found a website to get a new gear for it. So the plan should be, fix the major problems if any under the hood and have it running at tip top shape and then fix the body? Anymore suggestions? |
