gas leak? help please

after my exhaust was finished (o/r h 2.5" custom catback)

the smell of gas has always been around my car whether its driving sitting or has not been driven for a week

well i havent driven my car much the past several weeks idk 3-4 weeks 22 miles

my fuel level is half way between 3/4 and full, it usually doesnt drop down until around 50 miles or so

am i leaking gas? theres no way its being siphoned/stolen i have a locking gas cap..

it always has a faint to medium gas odor about it, but i was told that was because of the o/r h

ive checked under it as well as my friend thats a mechanic, didnt see anything but didnt look too much into it as we were working on other things.

thoughts?

the gas smell is due to no cats...i got the same smell after going o/r on my GT...tis a normal smell

i know the gas smell is normal lol after initial installation it freaked me out at first, i was like comeonnn, then found out it was normal

but then what would explain the fuel drop?

you might be dumping extra fuel due to the midpipe swap...those front o2's can do that too you if they get damaged or don't read correctly the exhaust flow.

do you need to retune for a new midpipe?

but the gas tank went down with no driving?

on a good trip i get like 300 to the tank

no retune for a new midpipe but a front o2 could of been damaged during the swap...

as for the gas going down...your floater could of been stuck..gotta think of every possibility...

sounds like the filler gasket. my gas disappered like that

+1 to this guy! thinking the same thing. I just had to replace mine and my gas mileage jumped up. my gasket was basically completely gone. =[

BTW to check just look under the car between the tank and gas cap and see if you can see any gas running down the tank marks or anything that looks like its leaking from the filler tube.

9 times outta 10 when u smell heavy gas and its parked and your mpg sucks..its your filler neck gasket. VERY common with our stangs
