Hey guys, I am installing a shifter on my car and the write-up on AM shows how to change the transmission fluid too. Its a 98 with about 135k on it. Do you guys recommend just changing it? I'm not sure how often manuals need their fluid changed, but i figured if i would be in there i might as well, but just wanted some feedback. Thanks!

I have heard horror stories involved with changing the transmission fluid if its NEVER been changed before as the stuff in their acts like "glue" meaning it now keeps everything running as smooth as possible, new fluid will eat away at gaskets, leaks occur..etc. just what i have heard though, it prevents me from doing mine but i have slowly added an additive to my trans fluid.

I changed my trans fluid when I installed my short throw too. I had like 105K on the clock and it had never been changed before, and I have had no problems with it at all. Use Royal Purple Syncromax fluid, your gonna need 3 quarts of the stuff. Get it off of amazon.com, cheapest place I found it. It was really a night and day difference, not only the short throw but how nice it goes in and out of gears.

Definately change it. Its auto trans that some say don't change it has been forever.

ok I will change it, I just add it through the top where the shifter goes in? thats what the write up showed

I was damn close to the same mileage and used the RP as well. No issues either with trans at all. At 150k now.
