m112 build qs

so I just picked up a used m112 kit and hope to start the build next week but I have some questions. Should I invest in a water/meth kit for it?what plugs should I run?what psi is safe for a conservative tune on stock internals? Is it okay to drive it around two hours after on just an emailed tune to get to the dyno tune shop? and any other tips or suggestions on things to do would be helpful

Im gonna say 8psi would be fine on a stock engine.
Seems like those are know for heat, water/meth would be a good thing! does it have an IC with that set up, im not sure what they consist of ?

as far as the driving, I can not say for sure, wouldn't think it would be to bad, seems like alot of people do that.

I'd go Autometer wideband O2.

Which M112 set up did you buy? That will dictate the rest of how you go about putting it together.

I'm going to assume it's not a cheap-o knock off kit.

You don't need meth if you are running a stock motor and low boost. This set up is not known for heat at all. The only people who have suffered issues with heat are buying the knock off set ups.

I'd use a stock blower pulley and at least 25% UDP on a stock motor to keep your boost 7-8 psi. "Safe" to drive to a tuner depends on who's uploaded tune you use. If you have Justin's (VMP) it's very safe... just don't rag on it (stay out of boost). Most of the time, under normal driving conditions you'll be in vacuum, so it shouldn't be an issue.

For plugs, run a step or two colder for best results.

I wouldn't get a Bama tune with all the horror stories lately. Especially on a unique set up like this. Justin @ VMP has a mail order tune for the M112 that he did when we were doing testing for the set up. It's pretty good to drive around on and get to a shop where you can get a dyno tune.

What hood are you planning on using?

So you have the history on your set up (and for people reading this), that is actually the first intake I sold to a customer. It was on my car for awhile to make sure the production units were as good as my custom made intake. I ran both stock and 2.8" blower pullies on it, and made some serious power. It went to Richard who had it on his car (Silver Mach 1 look-a-like) as part of the first ever My Steed Performance kit sold from Nathan. I flew to Dallas from Minneapolis to be on site when it was dyno tuned. Made 330/309 @ wheels. It has been slightly modified since being made. It looks like it was notched on the top plate to clear the coolant hard line that sits under the blower snout. (I cut out the hard lines and ran soft high temp hose on my car to use with shorter intakes down the line, so I didn't need the notch.)

Here's Richard's build thread:

I believe it's all there except for the hardware to bolt the intake to the lower and the blower to the intake.

I say meth to be safe. Then again the guy I know running the m112 setup was running like 13 pounds of boost.

There are a couple of diagrams to show vac hook up floating around 3.7M in the power adder section.
I would run the UD crank pulley and the stock blower pulley. The other pulley in the kit goes onto the top bolt of the alt to act as an idler and give more belt wrap.

Based on what if I may ask?

I may be speaking off hand, but I have heard about extremely hot intake temps from the m112 due to the lack of an IC

Meth is purely based on preference. Our cars can handle 8 lbs. without meth and be fine. If you tune it correctly you won't need it. But it is a good safety net if you want to push the car to it's max.

From what I have heard, the factory internals go out before you actually need meth.

A more accurate statment might be you heard people who haven't ever worked with an M112'd V6 think that there should be heat issues. We got a lot of flak about it, yet never had any heat issues. Because the M112 is so oversized for the application, it's not pushing nearly hard enough to heat up like some think it will. The only people who have had issues are the knock offs. Mostly b/c they got the design wrong.

Even on the 4.6L, my M112 is a non intercooled unit and I haven't had a heat soak problem it either. I DD and track it in the Miami heat... so if there was the chance to heat soak, I've opened the door for it.
