Introduction/Newb Help

Hello,
im new to working on my car and have lots of questions that my "car friends" don't seem to wanna help with anymore.

trust me you shall be hearing from me a lot and will be an active member starting today, i am apologize ahead of time for my poor grammar, surely i going to annoy most of you as i get the "ball rolling" on my first "mods"

First, i want to get a body kit that is in my price range (500$) i found a few but they are not painted or don't have any pre-drilled holes in them so...
  • what does matching my paint to kit cost?
  • what does installing them cost?
  • what are good things to look out for in materiel?
  • would it just be better to get lowering springs? and skip kit for poor kid like me?

next to set my car apart from the rest of the million red mustangs i was thinking of getting some black decals to accent my "hood indent", side of car and 'MUSTANG' lettering...
  • is that frowned on as tacky?
  • i have watched videos of people installing them it look extremely hard to cut right, is it?
  • is there something else you could suggest instead as accents?

Yeah for a v6 trust us when we say keep it a dd (daily driver) but its your car what ever you wanna do were here to help but we will give our opinons...as for a good dd

Just get a cheap cai like the one off of americanmuscle. Its like 79 dollars
Exhuast of your choice but the mojority of us prefere flowmaster with an h pipe or divorced duals but you can do x pipe its all about sound preference but keep in mind the x pipe makes your car a little bit more raspy

Do note that doing this will not increase more than 5 rwhp ish but the goal of this is for the car to breathe better and sound good for a v6

Now like said for a good dd just tdo cai and duals and mabey throw a chin spoiler on your stang they always enhance the appearence, it looks shaper some decient wheels and depending on your cards color (which I believe I saw was red) smoked head and tail lights and black wheels should look pretty mean/clean

Remember a good stang is a good clean looking one rather than a "riced" out one

ok welcome to the site. good to see new members but before 6er gets in here to eat u alive ima say that a body kit IS A NO GO. diff bumpers and things like that are ok, sometimes... but first we need to know what u have done to her already so we know what to tell you, what u can/should do/ideas. so what have you got done? basically the first mods that will entirely change the look of your car is rims/tires, lowering it, tint, and exhaust in my own opinion of course.

i really like how much respect you are all giving me.
thank you, i am new to everything so this is why i ask these questions so i don't look completely dumb!

ok so i will skip the kit, which is a weight off my chest seeing the time and money that wold be involved. 90% of my friends at school are into the "ricers" while i am only one who sticks to his "muscle" (i own a 65' fast back as well) needless to say i think i have be subliminal brain washed into thinking that kits are way to go.

my car is pretty much all stock other then the cheap pep boys shifter knob i got haha

problems with my car that need to be fixed or diminished.
*broken right tail light
*bumper has sun damage
*frosted front lights
*scratches from my studded belt (punk kids and filling up gas..bad news)
*exhaust leak i have not found yet, may be just lose bolt from when friend dropped my car off tracks while we where changing oil and drinking

i am a student and on minimum wage but to better give you and idea of what im looking for i would like to have a car that i can be proud of driving but still standing out.

i am mostly looking for visual, sound beastly with few extras to get me started and motivated to take it further later on.

so, from that quick crasher course im thinking im best going with

exhaust-http://www.americanmuscle.com/pypes-dual-exhaust-9604-v6.html
i have a exhaust leak so should kill two birds with one stone.

I busted my rear right tail light so i need to get that fixed i have seen a few on ebay for 80$. also when you guys say "tint" is hat just something i place over my stock lights?

and lowering springs which im assuming is what the "cai" you where speaking of?
are springs something i could do alone? im assuming the back tires would be tricky? cost of installation?

again, i look forward to all your help and being taken under your wing(s) my friends at school constantly bag on my for owning a riced out Honda so help me gain some respect or least some pride.

I would look into some black bumper inserts, they're cheap and easy to put on. that was the first thing I did to my car, then i put stripes on and that was hard as hell but if done right it pays off, always have people complimenting me. I get the feeling you are looking for more visual mods rather than performance?

Body kits look somewhat ricey depending on what you get, and painting to match your color....its not even worth the price. You'll need some wheels because most stock ones suck. You just have to learn what your style is and research to make it your own. Look at some other stands and see what all they got.

see, that's what i was afraid of with the decals!

i wanna go with black/red look and lettering and maybe a black stripe down the side is all i need but cutting it JUST RIGHT and lettering JUST RIGHT may be nerve racking.

i dig this-http://search.americanmuscle.com/redirect?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.americanmuscle.com%2 Fmatteblack-mustang-hood-decal.html

...but looks like a pain and a half and as stated before i don't wanna be set apart in a bad way.

is a CAI purely for performance?

Cold air intake would be more....sound than performance. I took mine off and thought it felt like it had better acceleration as stock. the only difference is the filter, you can drop in a k&n filter and get the same result.

The bumper inserts are super easy, don't worry about that for decals, the racing stripes....don't attempt if you don't know you can do it. as far as rocker stripes, they don't look to hard, but i haven't done that.

by the way i think your link up there is broken

Matte Black Mustang Hood Decal (99-04 GT) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

Fixed it. Idk man, I think that looks pretty good. I have seen some really bad decals and paint and I really don't think that would look bad. It'd definitely catch people's eyes. The difficult thing is that when you make visual mods there will always be someone who hates it. Just gotta live with it and do whatever you think looks good. make it your own

good point, in the end it my car.

i just dont want people to be like "Wow thats super lame"

like when i see kids that put the huge carbon fiber sheet/sticker on there hood to make it look like it carbon fiber.

i guess a really sharp razor will make sure i get a good clean/rounded edge.

I'm sure it comes pre-cut. I think most decals do. I could be wrong.

But yeah man, I'm in college and you have the people here with the eclipses with carbon fiber hoods, and stickers, plenty of stickers! Body kits, ugly rims i just see everything and it makes me sick, just not my style. But it doesn't mean its wrong, just different tastes.

Shopping List
1. Lowering Springs (no idea what to get here? ebay?)
2. Tail light(s)/Head lights (tinted)
3. Rims (black)
4. Decals (hood,side,rearx2)
6. exhaust (recommended "flowmasters" but may go with MAC or Pypes cause of price)
--i am assuming my best bet it to stick to a Y-pipeline i know i lose power and sound but still need to keep in price range--
7. Cold air intake (Bomz maybe)

i was looking at the "car of the month" the red on on there is almost spot on to what i want other then the rims.
